Somali Christians Face Death for Secret Worship as Islamic Extremism Tightens Grip
Underground Christians in Somalia Risk Execution for Following Jesus Christ
Underground Christians in Somalia continue to face systematic persecution and the constant threat of execution as the East African nation remains one of the most dangerous places on earth to follow Jesus Christ. Operating entirely in secret.
Somali believers must hide their faith from family, neighbors, and the militant group Al Shabaab, which controls large portions of the country and enforces strict Sharia law with brutal efficiency.

According to Open Doors and persecution monitoring organizations, there are estimated to be only a few thousand Christians among Somalia's population of over 17 million, nearly all of whom converted from Islam.
Conversion from Islam is considered apostasy under Somali law and Islamic jurisprudence, carrying an automatic death sentence. Al Shabaab fighters actively hunt for Christians, using informant networks to identify believers who gather for worship or possess Bibles.
Al Shabaab's Systematic Hunt for Christian Converts

Christians cannot openly attend church services, carry religious materials, or discuss their faith. Believers meet in groups of two or three in hidden locations, constantly changing meeting times and places to avoid detection.
Many have been forced to flee the country after their faith was discovered, while others have been murdered by family members in so called honor killings after conversion.
In recent months, reports have emerged of Christians being beheaded, shot, or stoned to death after being identified as followers of Christ.
Women who convert face additional dangers including forced marriage to Muslim men and sexual violence. Children of Christian families are forced to attend Islamic schools and participate in Muslim prayers to maintain the family's cover.
The Somali government offers no protection to Christians and actively cooperates with Islamic authorities to suppress any Christian presence in the nation.

THE CRUSADER'S OPINION
Believers meet in twos and threes, changing locations constantly.
Discovery means beheading, stoning, or execution by family members.
Women face forced marriage and sexual violence.
Children must attend Islamic schools and fake Muslim prayers to survive.
The Somali government cooperates with Islamic authorities to eliminate Christians.
Western Christians debate coffee and carpet colors while Somali believers whisper prayers knowing each one could be their last.
Where is the outrage? If Christians were hunting Muslims this way, the world would mobilize in hours.
But Christian blood remains cheap in the global marketplace of concern.
These believers need our prayers, resources, and voices now.
