Brave Female Police Officer Defends Christian Street Preacher's Right to Preach the Gospel in London's Whitechapel
A female Metropolitan Police officer has been widely praised after she stood her ground and defended a Christian street preacher's right to publicly share the Gospel on Whitechapel Road in London.
The incident, believed to have occurred on Monday, February 17, 2026, just one day before Ramadan began, took place only yards from the East London Mosque, one of the largest mosques in Western Europe. The area is 52.2% Muslim according to the latest census.
Viral footage showed the unnamed evangelist, clutching a microphone and Bible, preaching the Gospel when he was physically shoved from behind by a masked man and had his equipment kicked. A second man shouted in his face and made aggressive gestures.
A group of men then surrounded a lone female officer, identified by senior police as PC Moule, and demanded she arrest the preacher for "insulting Islam," "spreading hatred," and offending the Prophet Muhammad. One man was heard saying, "This is Whitechapel, this is a Muslim area."
In this country we have freedom of speech, the same way you guys have your freedom of speech. You guys don't need to see eye to eye and you don't need to agree. I understand that you guys don't want to hear it, so I would just recommend that you walk away and don't listen to him. He's not in your home. PC Moule
PC Moule repeatedly emphasized that the preacher was "not being aggressive" and pointed out that the men were free to preach their own faith in the same public space. When told "this is our community," she responded firmly: "But he's not in your home."
The video clip went viral, racking up over 500,000 views on X (formerly Twitter). Toby Young of the Free Speech Union wrote in The Telegraph that PC Moule "deserves a medal," praising her understanding that peaceful public preaching is protected under Article 10 of the Human Rights Act 1998.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage called the constable "brilliant," saying she "deserves to be honoured" and adding, "I wish more were like her." Conservative London Assembly member Susan Hall congratulated the officer for reminding people of the meaning of free speech.
Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist brought the footage to the London Assembly, describing the officer's conduct as an example of "policing common sense without fear or favour." The force confirmed no action would be taken against the preacher, who was not arrested.
UK Street Preachers Face Growing Hostility as Police Officer's Defense of Free Speech Goes Viral

The incident has reignited concerns about the growing pattern of Christian street preachers facing hostility, assault, and even arrest in the United Kingdom. Several high profile cases have emerged in recent years.
Pastor Dia Moodley was arrested in November 2025 in Bristol. John Steele was arrested in June 2025 in Rotherham. Shaun O'Sullivan was arrested in 2020 in Swindon but was later acquitted. Pastor Oluwole Ilesanmi won a £2,500 wrongful arrest settlement in 2019 after being detained for street preaching.
The Crusader's Opinion
Let us be absolutely clear about what happened here. A Christian man stood on a public street in England's capital city and read from the Bible. For that, he was physically attacked, verbally abused, and surrounded by a mob demanding his arrest. His crime? Preaching the Gospel in a neighborhood where men openly declared, "This is a Muslim area."
Thank God for PC Moule. She did something extraordinary, something that should be ordinary: she upheld the law. She reminded every person on that street that Britain still has freedom of speech. Now ask yourself this: what would happen to a Muslim preacher standing outside a church in a Christian neighborhood? He would be left completely alone. No mob. No violence. No demands for arrest.
The double standard is sickening. Christians are being shoved, arrested, and silenced on the streets of their own civilization while the world stays silent. This is not just about free speech. This is about whether Christianity will be permitted to exist openly in the West. The answer must always be yes, and we must never stop fighting for it.
