Hindu Nationalists Attack Bus Full of Missionaries, Starve Christian Families Into Submission

India, ranked the 11th worst persecutor of Christianity worldwide by Open Doors, above Communist China and Islamist Saudi Arabia, continues to see escalating violence against believers by Hindu extremists.

In two recent incidents, a bus full of missionaries was accosted by Hindus, while elsewhere a Christian community is being reduced to poverty by their neighbors due to their refusal to worship idols.

On October 23, 2025, a group of missionaries were traveling to the village of Juthana, to which they had been invited by local residents. Screams of distress are audible on footage of the incident circulating online. According to one source, the missionaries were attacked for "attempting religious conversions by offering money and insulting Hindu gods," reports Christian Solidarity Worldwide.

Police initially did little to intervene. While no one was hurt, eight police officers have been suspended for their failure to act properly.

CSW's Founder President Mervyn Thomas said:

"This brutal attack is a sad reminder of the growing intolerance faced by peaceful religious minorities in regions already fraught with tension. We call on the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that justice is served and to guarantee the safety of all minorities, regardless of their religion or belief."

In a small fishing village in the south of India, Christians are facing the third month of a social and economic boycott from their Hindu neighbors. The boycott began when the Christians in the village refused to provide funding for a temple for the village goddess.

Christians are often attacked by Hindus in india

Christians were denied access to communal fishing areas and not permitted to attend social gatherings or access essential goods and services, says Open Doors. Even relatives of the Christians have refused to speak to them, as doing so will incur a fine. Around 100 families are victims of the boycott, which has forced them to travel great distances to perform even the most basic economic functions.

A local Christian housewife told Open Doors, "We are not able to talk to people next to our door. If we do so, we will be fined. When we go to the shop, they refused to sell items. Due to this, we struggle a lot to lead our daily lives. We feel very sad that we are now treated as aliens in the place where we have been living together for years."

Typically, non-Hindus are not required to contribute towards the construction of temples or idols. However, local Hindu nationalists made the demand. The police have suggested reconciliation talks, but the Hindu nationalists have refused such requests.

India is often dubbed "the world's largest democracy," yet the actions of Hindu extremists in the country continue to take their toll on believers.

THE CRUSADER'S OPINION

India calls itself "the world's largest democracy." That's a lie.

You cannot call yourself a democracy when mobs attack buses full of missionaries invited by local residents. You cannot call yourself a democracy when police stand by and watch Christians get assaulted. You cannot call yourself a democracy when 100 Christian families are economically starved because they refuse to fund idol worship.

India ranks 11th worst for Christian persecution. Worse than Communist China. Worse than Saudi Arabia. Let that sink in. The "world's largest democracy" persecutes Christians more brutally than atheist dictatorships and Islamic kingdoms.

Hindu nationalists attacked missionaries who were invited to a village. The police did nothing. Eight officers got suspended, but only after the world found out. That's not justice. That's damage control.

And in the south, Christian families can't buy food. Can't fish in communal waters. Can't speak to their own neighbors without their neighbors being fined. All because they won't pay for a temple to a false goddess.

This is religious apartheid. Economic terrorism. State-sanctioned persecution.

Where's the international outrage? Where are the United Nations condemnations? Where are the human rights activists who scream about every other injustice?

Silent. Because the victims are Christians.

If this were happening to any other religious minority, the world would be ablaze with protests. But when it's Christians being starved and beaten, the media yawns and scrolls past.

India persecutes Christians with impunity because the world lets them. The West trades with India. Praises India. Calls India a democratic ally. All while ignoring that Christians there are treated like aliens in their own villages.

This is what persecution looks like in 2025. Not just violence. Economic strangulation. Social exile. Turning neighbors into enemies. Making survival impossible unless you bow to idols.

And these Christians refuse. They'd rather starve than deny Christ. They'd rather be outcasts than compromise.

That's real faith. That's costly discipleship. And it puts comfortable Western Christianity to shame.
