Dominican Republic Launches Historic Evangelical Census With Gallup Partnership

The Dialogue and Christian Representation Roundtable of the Dominican Republic, known as MEDIREC, has announced two groundbreaking research initiatives: a National Evangelical Survey and a National Evangelical Census.

Bishop Reynaldo Franco Aquino made the announcement during the Board of Directors' first meeting of 2026. He stated that the initiative addresses a longstanding gap in accurate data about the country's faith community.

The prestigious research firm Gallup will conduct the study, ensuring what leaders described as "methodological rigor and transparency in the results."

The research will identify and quantify churches, ministries, and organizations across the nation while measuring variables related to faith practice, leadership, and community engagement.

These studies have no political or partisan purposes, but seek to promote the comprehensive development of the faith community.

Christian leaders emphasized this institutional nature of the project, clarifying that the data will serve the church, not political agendas.

Results will be made available to the evangelical community, government authorities, the academic sector, and society at large. The goal is to foster dialogue based on reliable statistics rather than assumptions.

Officials said the measurement tools will provide up to date data on the realities and challenges facing the evangelical sector, and will help strengthen strategic planning within the church.

The initiative comes at a significant moment. Evangelicalism in the Dominican Republic has experienced explosive growth. In 2008, evangelicals made up just 12% of the population. By 2020, that number had surged to 26%, representing over 11.3 million people.

The partnership with Gallup adds significant credibility to the effort, positioning it as the most methodologically rigorous attempt to map the evangelical landscape in the Caribbean nation's history.

The Crusader's Opinion

This is how the Church grows. Not just in numbers, but in knowledge of itself. For too long, evangelical communities across Latin America have been dismissed, undercounted, and politically ignored. The Dominican Republic is doing something bold: counting its faithful with the same rigor the world uses to count its consumers. When you partner with Gallup to map 26% of your nation's population, you are making a statement: we are here, we matter, and we will no longer be an afterthought. Every denomination should take note. Know your flock. Count your churches. Demand a seat at the table.
