Bible Sales Explode: US Hits 21 Year High, UK Doubles Since 2019

19 Million Bibles Sold In America While UK Sees 106% Increase, Publishers Credit Mental Health Crisis, AI Rise, Global Wars For Spiritual Hunger

Bible sales in the United Kingdom reached their highest ever level in 2025 while the United States hit a 21 year high with 19 million units sold, more than doubling in value since 2019 according to reports from Christian publishers and industry analysts. Physical Bible sales in the UK increased 106 percent between 2019 and 2025 according to research by Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge.

Year over year growth from 2024 to 2025 was 27.7 percent with the English Standard Version published by Crossway topping the list of most purchased translations.

UK sales rose from £2.69 million in 2019 to £6.3 million last year, an increase of £3.61 million over five years. That growth contrasts sharply with the £277,188 rise seen over the entire period from 2008 to 2019. A 2025 YouGov poll found 49 percent of UK residents aged 18 to 25 believed in a higher power.

Publishers Credit COVID Aftermath, Wars, AI Rise, Mental Health Crisis Driving Bible Boom

SPCK CEO Sam Richardson told Premier Christian News the significant and sustained upward trend suggests more people are investigating Christian faith themselves. Richardson said 2025 was the first year the organization saw indications of what he called a Quiet Revival. He said individuals are re-engaging with questions of meaning and spirituality as they face worldwide political and social change including after effects of COVID 19 pandemic, global wars, rise of artificial intelligence, and growing mental health crisis.

In the United States, 19 million Bibles sold in 2025 marked a 12 percent increase compared to 2024 and double the 2019 figure according to Circana BookScan statistics. Brenna Connor, Circana's director and industry analyst, told Publishers Weekly the greater interest reflects a bigger search for hope and community.

Consumers are increasingly turning to faith based resources as anchors of stability during uncertain times. American publishers cited growing interest among students and young adults, with anecdotal reports from college campuses indicating higher demand for printed Bibles over digital versions particularly among new readers.

Jeff Crosby, president of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, told The Wall Street Journal that people experiencing anxiety for themselves or their children feeds a desire for assurance related to artificial intelligence and election cycles. In 2024, US Bible sales grew 22 percent while total print book sales increased less than 1 percent.
