Angel Studios Releases Epic Trailer for Young Washington Movie Ahead of America's 250th Birthday

Angel Studios and Wonder Project have unveiled the official trailer for "Young Washington," a sweeping historical war epic that chronicles the early life of America's first president, George Washington.

The film stars William Franklyn Miller as a young Washington thrust into the chaos of the French and Indian War at just 22 years old. After a critical misstep forces him into the center of a brutal conflict, Washington must confront external enemies and his own internal struggles while forging himself into the leader who would one day command a nation.

The movie will premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 13, 2026, before opening nationwide on July 3, 2026, timed perfectly with Independence Day weekend and the nation's 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Director Jon Erwin, best known for the hit film "Jesus Revolution," leads the project alongside a star studded cast that includes Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, Emmy winner Kelsey Grammer, Oscar nominee Mary Louise Parker, and motion capture legend Andy Serkis. CCM artist Joel Smallbone also appears in the film.

We focus on what we call 'epic authenticity,' stories with real emotional truth, made with genuine passion.

Jon Gunn, executive producer of the film, described Wonder Project's creative vision for the project.

The screenplay was written by Diederik Hoogstraten, Tom Provost, and Erwin, with production led by Chip Diggins and executive producers Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, Benton Crane, Mike Strong, and Jon Gunn.

Angel Studios is also preparing a loaded summer slate that includes "Animal Farm," directed by Andy Serkis, and "The Brink of War," which dramatizes President Ronald Reagan's nuclear negotiations with Mikhail Gorbachev.

The film represents a growing trend among faith friendly studios to bring high quality historical epics to mainstream audiences. Angel Studios, which rose to prominence with "The Chosen" and "Sound of Freedom," continues to position itself as a major player in Hollywood by investing in stories that celebrate Western heritage and the values that shaped the founding of the United States.

With its July 3 release date, "Young Washington" invites audiences across America to revisit the sacrifices and struggles that gave birth to the nation, just as the country marks a quarter millennium since declaring its independence.

The Crusader's Opinion

This is exactly the kind of film our culture desperately needs. While Hollywood continues to churn out soulless franchises and morally bankrupt content, Angel Studios is investing millions into telling the real stories of the men who built Western civilization. George Washington was not just a general or a president. He was a man of deep Christian conviction who knelt in prayer at Valley Forge and led a nation that dared to declare its rights came from God, not government. The fact that this film opens on Independence Day weekend, on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration, should stir something in every Christian who loves this country. Go see it. Take your family. Support the studios willing to tell the truth about our heritage.
