Trump Fires Pam Bondi, Addresses Nation on Iran War, and Faces Pro Life Backlash Over Planned Parenthood Funding

President Donald Trump's administration delivered a whirlwind week of major developments, spanning military operations in Iran, a cabinet shakeup at the Department of Justice, and a controversial decision on Planned Parenthood funding that drew sharp criticism from the pro life movement.

On Wednesday, April 1, Trump addressed the nation in a primetime speech from the White House Cross Hall regarding what the administration has dubbed "Operation Epic Fury." The conflict, now in its 32nd day after U.S. and Israeli forces launched strikes that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, has left Iran's military capabilities devastated.

Iran's navy is gone. Their air force is in ruins. Their leaders are now dead.

Trump vowed to "hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks," stating he would "bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong." Despite claims of progress, markets slumped following the speech, with Brent crude spiking over 4% to more than $105 per barrel, and Iran continues blocking the Strait of Hormuz.

On Thursday, Trump announced via Truth Social that Attorney General Pam Bondi would be departing the Department of Justice. Reports indicate Trump had grown frustrated with Bondi's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files and her failure to secure convictions against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as Acting Attorney General. Bondi's exit marks the second cabinet departure in recent weeks, following the removal of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The DOJ also filed suit against Minnesota's Department of Education and State High School League over policies permitting trans identified male athletes to compete in women's sports. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon stated the DOJ "cannot ignore a state's brazen defiance of federal antidiscrimination law." The Department of Education simultaneously opened an investigation into a New Hampshire school district for allowing biological males access to girls' locker rooms.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration extended Planned Parenthood's Title X grants for a fifth and final year locked in during the Biden presidency, citing "significant legal challenges." SBA Pro Life America president Marjorie Dannenfelser called the move "a clear abandonment" of pro life policy.

Live Action founder Lila Rose condemned the Planned Parenthood funding decision as a "betrayal of the pro life Americans" who expected stronger action, stating that "Title X funds should go to real health care providers" who do not take life. The administration has signaled it is developing a restored "Protect Life Rule" to block Title X funds from going to abortion providers going forward.

The Supreme Court also heard oral arguments this week on Trump's attempt to end birthright citizenship, with the President himself attending the proceedings, a historic first. Justices, including Trump's own appointees, posed tough questions to the administration's lawyer. Trump later claimed the U.S. is "the only country in the world stupid enough" to have birthright citizenship, though more than 30 nations maintain such laws.

The Crusader's Opinion

Let's be clear about what happened this week. Our government funded Planned Parenthood with taxpayer dollars while simultaneously prosecuting a war overseas. They found "significant legal challenges" to defunding the largest abortion provider in America, but no legal challenges to launching missiles at Tehran. The pro life movement handed this administration a mandate, and what did we get? A fifth year of checks flowing to an organization that has ended millions of innocent lives. Marjorie Dannenfelser is right: this should have been a Day One policy. Christians, we cannot be silent. Every dollar to Planned Parenthood is a dollar that funds the slaughter of the unborn. That is not a political opinion. That is an eternal truth.
