Three Nigerian Christians Jailed Without Charges After Helping Soldiers Rescue Kidnap Victim in Kaduna

Three volunteer community guards in Kaduna State, Nigeria, have been locked up for more than a month without being formally charged after they helped soldiers rescue a kidnapped woman from armed Fulani terrorists.

Habila Yaro Umaru, Philibus Ninyioh, and Augustine Tinat remain detained inside the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) facility in Kaduna. Their families say they are being punished for doing the right thing.

On January 13, 2026, armed Fulani militants ambushed travelers along the Jos to Kaduna highway between Manchok and Jankasa in Southern Kaduna. The attackers blocked the road, abducted several commuters, and sexually assaulted a young woman from Kajim village.

Troops under the Nigerian Army's Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, responded to the attack. During the firefight, soldiers killed three of the attackers and rescued the victim. The three community guards assisted the military operation.

Weeks later, on February 16, 2026, police arrested the three vigilantes. The arrests followed a formal petition filed by Ardo Hari Salisu, chairman of the local chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Manchok.

They are being punished for helping the army save a kidnapped woman. The soldiers who carried out the same operation walk free while our brothers rot in a cell.

Bobbai Dauda Johnson, village head of Kajim, confirmed the petition and expressed outrage at the double standard.

As of press time, neither the Kaduna State Government nor the Nigeria Police Force has explained why the three men remain uncharged but in detention after 30 days. The soldiers involved in the same operation have not been detained.

Christian Volunteers Face Unjust Detention in Southern Kaduna While Terrorists Roam Free

The case has drawn attention from human rights organizations who see a disturbing pattern. Nigeria remains the deadliest country in the world for Christians. Of the 4,849 Christians killed worldwide for their faith in 2025, Nigerians accounted for 3,490 of them.

Southern Kaduna has been at the epicenter of this crisis. In January 2026 alone, over 160 worshippers were abducted from churches in Kurmin Wali, and coordinated attacks across the region have displaced thousands of Christian families.

Community leaders and rights advocates say the detention of these three men sends a chilling message: help the military fight terrorism, and you may end up in a cell yourself.

The Crusader's Opinion

Let this sink in. Three Christian men helped the Nigerian Army rescue a woman from terrorists. They are now in prison. The terrorists? Many are still walking free. The Miyetti Allah leader who filed the petition against them? Also free. The soldiers who did the exact same thing in the exact same operation? Free.

This is not justice. This is persecution with a government stamp on it. When a Fulani herder association can file a petition and have Christians thrown in jail without charges for over a month, the system is rotten to its core. Imagine for one moment if Christians in the West filed petitions to jail Muslims who helped law enforcement. The world would be on fire with outrage. But Nigerian Christians? Silence.

Evil thrives when good men are punished for fighting it. God sees what Kaduna's authorities refuse to acknowledge.
