Royal Family Returns to Windsor Castle for Easter Service as Prince Andrew Is Barred

King Charles III and Queen Camilla led the Royal Family at the annual Easter Sunday Mattins Service at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, on April 5, 2026. The service marked a significant moment for the monarchy, with the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children attending for the first time in three years.

Prince William and Princess Kate arrived with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, waving to well wishers outside the chapel. The family had been absent from the Easter service since 2023, as Catherine underwent cancer treatment over the past two years.

Also in attendance were Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, and his 18 year old son James, Earl of Wessex. Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, were present, as were Lady Sarah Chatto and her husband Daniel Chatto.

The Easter Sunday church service at St George's Chapel is a traditional family event, presented as a public expression of continuity for the monarchy.

Notably absent were Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, his former wife Sarah Ferguson, and their daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. The princesses reportedly received agreement from the King to make alternative plans amid the fallout from Andrew's association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew was stripped of his royal title and remains under investigation following his arrest in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He has denied any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.

King Charles, 77, is set to make a state visit to the United States later in April. He is expected to address a joint meeting of Congress on April 28, marking his first state visit to the U.S. as King.

Sunday's service represented more than a religious observance. It was the first public family outing since Andrew's arrest, making the gathering a carefully watched display of royal unity. The appearance of the Wales children marked their first public outing of 2026.

The Crusader's Opinion

Easter is the most important day in Christianity. It is the day our Lord conquered death itself. So it matters when a nation's head of state, the head of the Church of England, makes a public statement by walking into a chapel on Resurrection Sunday with his family beside him. King Charles showed up. The Wales family showed up. Princess Kate, who battled cancer and came through the other side by God's grace, showed up. That is what leadership looks like. Meanwhile, the disgraced Andrew is exactly where he should be: outside. Actions have consequences, and no title or bloodline exempts anyone from that truth. Let this be a reminder that the Crown carries not just privilege, but responsibility before God.
