Worship Artist Says He Was "Doing Saul's Work, Persecuting the Church" Until Forrest Frank's Faithful Rebuke Brought Him Back to Christ
Worship artist Cory Asbury, best known for writing the global Christian anthem "Reckless Love" in 2017, has publicly confessed that he spent five years away from his faith and ministry, returning in autumn 2025 after Christian rapper Forrest Frank delivered a "brotherly rebuke" that broke through.
"The rebuke of my brother (Forrest) gained heaven another soul," Asbury wrote in a social media post on 16 May 2026.
How Forrest Frank's Rebuke Brought Cory Asbury Back to Faith

Asbury described his five year absence as resembling the biblical prodigal son, not the "Reckless Love" of the Father he had once celebrated in song. "I had been doing Saul's work, persecuting the church," he confessed. He acknowledged his public stance and behaviour during those years caused harm within church communities.
The turning point came through Frank's directness. Asbury cited Proverbs 27:6: "Faithful are the wounds of a friend." Both musicians had previously announced plans for a faith based "Jesus Bowl" event as an alternative to the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show, but the collaboration with Turning Point USA was abandoned when visions diverged. The deeper story is the restoration of a wandering worship leader by a friend who refused to flatter him.
The Crusader's Opinion
Cory Asbury is a household name in modern worship. His fall and return is exactly the kind of public testimony the Body of Christ should celebrate. Forrest Frank did what most modern Christians refuse to do: he confronted a brother in love. Proverbs 27:6 is not a cosy verse. It commands believers to wound one another for the sake of restoration. Every Christian needs a Forrest Frank in their life. Every Christian needs to be willing to be one. Pray for Asbury, for his marriage, for his ministry, and for every prodigal son and daughter still on the road home.
