Protestants Surge, Catholics Hold Steady: 2026 Church Giving Surveys Reveal Stunning Trends
Protestants report record giving growth while Catholic parishes hold steady, with digital donations driving generosity across both traditions.
How Are Protestant and Catholic Churches Doing Financially in 2026? New Surveys Reveal Surprising Giving Trends
Two newly released surveys from Ministry Brands, in partnership with Parable Group, found that Protestant and Catholic congregations across the United States are showing strong but distinct patterns in church giving heading into 2026.
According to the 2026 Annual Church Giving Report and the Annual Parish Giving Report, 55 percent of Protestant churches reported year over year increases in giving during 2025. Among Catholic parishes, 55 percent reported that giving either grew or remained stable, a finding the report described as reflecting consistency rather than growth alone.
The two surveys analyzed billions of dollars in digital donations across tens of thousands of churches and parishes nationwide. Nearly 1,000 church and parish leaders responded to the underlying questionnaire.
Digital giving emerged as a significant driver across both traditions. Fifty seven percent of Protestant churches reported an increase in digital giving, and digital channels accounted for 41 percent of total donations among congregations that offer the service.
The reports also highlighted a strong link between attendance and contributions inside Catholic parishes. Parishes that saw weekly attendance grow were 7.8 times more likely to report increased giving and 8.5 times more likely to report a higher number of donors.
Younger givers responded sharply to digital wallet options. Protestant churches offering digital wallets were nearly twice as likely to report increased generosity from donors aged 18 to 29, while Catholic parishes offering the same option were 2.6 times more likely to see growth in that demographic.
What the 2026 Church Giving Reports Mean for Protestant and Catholic Congregations

The surveys, authored by Ministry Brands and Parable Group, were published April 7, 2026, and reported by Ian M. Giatti of The Christian Post. Researchers concluded that while Protestant churches are leaning into growth and Catholic parishes are leaning into stability, both traditions are increasingly reliant on digital tools to maintain and expand generosity from their members.
The Crusader's Opinion
Money tells the truth about a church faster than any sermon ever will. The fact that Protestants and Catholics are both still giving sacrificially in 2026, in an economy that wants to bleed every family dry, is a quiet miracle. The world says religion is dying. The collection plate says otherwise. And let the mockers note this carefully. Christians are funding their own churches with their own paychecks, while secular causes beg the government for handouts. That is what real conviction looks like.
