Christian Property Tycoon Samuel Leeds Offers £225,000 to Rescue Closing Methodist Church in England

British property investor Samuel Leeds has launched a bold initiative to save churches across England from permanent closure, starting with a cash offer of £225,000 for a Methodist church in Wednesbury, West Midlands.

Leeds, a self made investor who began purchasing property at age 17, announced his bid on social media on March 7, 2026. The Wednesbury church had been listed for offers above £225,000 and was facing sale to developers for residential conversion.

I'm fed up with driving past all these churches in the UK that used to thrive, support the community, and feed the homeless.

Samuel Leeds told Premier Christian News.

His plan is to purchase the building and lease it completely free of charge, with zero rent, to any church willing to worship Jesus there and serve others. Leeds emphasized that if the building was originally constructed as a church, it should remain one.

If it was built as a church, I believe it needs to stay as a church.

The initiative comes at a critical time for Christianity in Britain. More than 3,500 churches have closed across the UK in the past decade, with some being repurposed as mosques, nightclubs, and residential apartments as congregations dwindle and repair costs skyrocket. Hundreds more face closure by 2030.

Leeds told reporters he believes a spiritual revival is coming to England and that historic church buildings must be preserved to accommodate it.

There's revival coming in England, and we need to keep our churches open.

If he acquires the Wednesbury church, Leeds said it could be used by congregations, charities serving local communities, or even a Christian school. He has also called on the public to send him tips on other at risk church buildings across the country.

Leeds, who owns developments in the UK and internationally, stressed that profit is not his motivation. He declared he "doesn't care" about making money from reviving these Christian sites. Instead, his focus is on maximum community impact: helping the homeless, feeding the hungry, and preaching the gospel.

The Crusader's Opinion

Sure, it has been argued he's scammed people in the past, but, This is exactly what we need more of. While 3,500 churches have been sold off, gutted, and turned into nightclubs and apartments, one man steps forward and says "enough." Samuel Leeds is putting his money where his faith is. Meanwhile, how many wealthy Christians sit in comfortable pews complaining about the decline of Christianity while doing absolutely nothing? Our churches are the beating heart of this nation's soul. Every single one that closes is a spiritual wound on England. When a church becomes a mosque, nobody blinks. When a Christian tries to keep a church open, the world shrugs. The double standard is sickening. Leeds understands what too many have forgotten: these walls are sacred, and this land was built on the foundation of Christ. Revival is coming, but only if we fight for it.
