Evan Roberts Locke Loses Battle With Addiction as Pastor Greg Locke Asks for Prayer
"A few hours ago we received the most earth shattering news that our 20 year old son, Evan Roberts Locke, could not be revived after his heart stopped due to an overdose," Locke wrote. He continued: "His struggle was very public. It was used as a warning to many, a punchline to the haters, but an overall reminder that even in our deepest pain, the grace of Jesus will sustain us."
Evan leaves five siblings. The Locke family has requested privacy while grieving. Christian leaders including missionary Sean Feucht and revivalist Stan Lovins II publicly offered prayers and condolences. The pastor's transparency about Evan's struggle has long been part of his testimony, used to warn other parents about the addiction crisis devastating American families.
The Crusader's Opinion
Whatever your view of Pastor Greg Locke and his fiery ministry, he is a father who just lost a son. That is the only thing that matters today. Evan Roberts Locke was 20 years old. He was loved. He battled addiction publicly because his father refused to hide it. That courage may save other young lives. The grace of Jesus, as the Locke family said in their darkest hour, will sustain them. Pray for them. Pray for the five siblings. Pray for every Christian family wrestling with addiction. The cross of Christ meets the worst the world can throw at us.
