NYC Mayor's Wife Caught Celebrating Hamas Massacre Now Says She's 'Truly Sorry'
Rama Duwaji, wife of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, apologizes for pro Hamas social media likes and racist posts exposed by the Washington Free Beacon.
NYC Mayor Mamdani's Wife Rama Duwaji Apologizes for Pro Hamas Social Media Posts and Racist Language
Rama Duwaji, the wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, has publicly apologized for her past social media activity, which included "likes" on content celebrating the Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023, as well as posts containing racist and derogatory language toward minority groups.
In her first public interview since her husband took office in January 2026, Duwaji told art magazine Hyperallergic that she felt deep remorse for her online behavior.
When a tabloid recently published old tweets I wrote as a teenager, I felt a lot of shame being confronted with language I used that is so harmful to others; being 15 doesn't excuse it.
Duwaji added:
I've read and seen a lot of what others have had to say in response, and I understand the hurt I caused and am truly sorry.
The controversy erupted after the Washington Free Beacon uncovered problematic posts from Duwaji's social media history spanning 2013 to 2017. The posts included celebrations of Palestinian terrorists, praise for PFLP member Shadia Abu Ghazaleh, derogatory language targeting LGBTQ individuals, and a post stating Tel Aviv "shouldn't even exist in the first place."
Duwaji was also found to have liked an Instagram post that appeared to celebrate Hamas's October 7 surprise attack on Israel. Additionally, she provided an illustration for an essay by an author who described the October 7 attack as "spectacular" and called Jewish Israelis "rootless soulless ghouls."
Mayor Mamdani stated the illustration work was commissioned through a third party and his wife never met the controversial author or saw the problematic tweets. He called the author's rhetoric "patently unacceptable" and "reprehensible."
Rama Duwaji Pro Hamas Controversy Sparks Outrage Among Jewish New Yorkers

Duwaji, born in Houston in 1997 to Syrian immigrant parents, studied fine arts and built a career as an animator, illustrator, and ceramist before moving to New York. She and Mamdani met on the dating app Hinge in 2021, were engaged in October 2024, and married in a civil ceremony at New York City Hall in February 2025.
Notably, Duwaji did not specify which comments she was apologizing for, nor did she address more recent social media activity regarding Israel that has attracted heavy scrutiny. The controversy has reportedly prompted increased interest among New York City's Jewish residents in relocating to Israel.
The Crusader's Opinion
Let us be absolutely clear about what happened here. The wife of America's most powerful city mayor was caught celebrating the slaughter of innocent Jewish men, women, and children on October 7. She praised terrorists. She used vile, racist language. And now she offers a carefully worded apology that conveniently avoids the worst of what she said and did.
Imagine for one moment if a Christian mayor's wife had been caught celebrating violence against Muslims. The media firestorm would have been relentless. Careers would end. But when it involves the celebration of Jewish suffering, we get a soft interview in an art magazine and a half apology about "teenage mistakes." The hypocrisy is staggering.
Evil does not get a pass because you were young. Celebrating the murder of innocents is not a youthful indiscretion. It is a window into the soul.
