Christian Nurse Jennifer Melle Wins NHS Settlement After Being Suspended for Refusing to Use Transgender Pronouns

Jennifer Melle, a 41 year old Christian nurse from Croydon, south London, has received a settlement from Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust after a 10 month suspension over her refusal to use a transgender patient's preferred pronouns.

The incident occurred in May 2024 at St Helier Hospital in Carshalton. While speaking to a doctor outside the patient's room about catheter removal, Melle referred to the patient as "he" and "Mr" in a clinical context. The patient, a convicted pedophile admitted from a male prison for treatment, overheard and became aggressive.

According to Melle, the patient verbally abused her with racist slurs, calling her the N word multiple times, and physically lunged at her while restrained. Despite the abuse she endured, the Trust issued Melle a written warning and reported her to the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Melle stated that she could not use the patient's preferred pronouns due to her Christian faith, but offered to use their name instead. She continued working after the initial warning.

However, in March 2025, Melle was suspended with full pay after speaking to the media about her experience. NHS officials raised concerns that she could potentially breach patient confidentiality. She was reinstated in January 2026 after a private disciplinary meeting found no further action was warranted.

The Trust also wrote to the patient warning that threatening and racially offensive language was not tolerated and could result in venue bans. The settlement was reached just before an employment tribunal was set to begin on April 13, 2026. The terms remain confidential.

A nurse with a 12 year spotless record was suspended, investigated, and dragged before regulators for calling a man "Mr." Meanwhile, the convicted pedophile who racially abused her with the vilest slurs imaginable got a polite warning letter. That is the state of the NHS in modern Britain. A system that will protect the feelings of a child predator while crushing a faithful nurse who dared to speak truth. Jennifer Melle did not misgender anyone. She used biological reality. And for that, the full weight of the institutional machine came down on her. Christians across the West must understand what is happening. This is not about pronouns. This is about whether you will be allowed to live according to your faith in the public square. The answer, increasingly, is no. Unless we fight back.
