Beloved North Carolina Pastor Tammy McCollum Shot Dead Inside Her Home, Husband Charged with First Degree Murder

Tammy McCollum, a 58 year old minister at The Well Worship Center in Statesville, North Carolina, was fatally shot inside her Charlotte home in the early morning hours of Monday, April 6, 2026. Her husband, Eddie McCollum, 61, has been charged with first degree murder.

According to court documents, Eddie McCollum called 911 shortly after 2 a.m. and told dispatchers he had shot his wife during an argument. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the assault call and found Tammy with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eddie McCollum was questioned at the scene and arrested. His bond was set at $1 million during his first court appearance on Tuesday. He worked as a teaching assistant for exceptional children at Southwest Middle School in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools system.

Tragically, Tammy had delivered an Easter Sunday sermon just hours before she was killed. Beyond her ministry, she worked at Ulta Beauty at the Belgate Shopping Center in Charlotte, where she had been employed on and off for approximately eight years.

Tributes have poured in from her community. Coworker Sha'Brittany Evans called her Ulta Beauty's "best employee."

"One of the most kind, vibrant, and caring people I've ever had the chance to know." Van Appleton, salon owner
"She was full of light. She loved God, her family, and her church family." Audrey M. Ingram

Just over four years ago in February 2022, Tammy had publicly declared on her Facebook page that she was "blessed and honored" to have been married to Eddie, calling him an "amazing man of God" of 30 years. Digital creator Rick Soup Campbell characterized the killing as a "Satanic act" and urged prayer for ministers facing spiritual attacks.

The Crusader's Opinion

A woman of God preached the resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday and was murdered in her own home before Monday's sunrise. Let that sink in. The enemy of our souls hates the bride of Christ with a fury most Christians refuse to acknowledge. Pastor Tammy stood in the pulpit proclaiming life and was met with death from the man who shared her bed for over three decades. Pray for her congregation, pray for justice, and pray for every minister of the Gospel who walks into spiritual warfare every single Sunday. Evil is real. So is heaven. May she rest in the arms of the Savior she preached.
