Kalegeya Faruku Survives Brutal Sharia Style Mutilation in Jinja After Converting to Christianity From Islam in March

Kalegeya Faruku, 40, a Ugandan Christian convert, has survived one of the most barbaric acts of religious persecution in recent memory. On 17 April 2026, his Muslim relatives, including his own elder brother and his father Lubega Issa, severed both of his hands while reciting Islamic scripture in Jinja, eastern Uganda. Faruku had converted to Christianity in early March 2026.

Faruku's father justified the mutilation in chilling terms:

"That is what sharia instructs us to do to those who deny the religion of Allah."

Ugandan Christian Survives Sharia Hand Amputation for Converting From Islam

"I gave my life to Jesus in early March 2026, and my family members were not happy," Faruku said.

After his conversion, his family sent threatening messages. When he returned home to collect his belongings on 17 April, his relatives ambushed him, cut off his hands, and abandoned him near a crossroads about five kilometres away.

"I thank God that a stranger found me and raised an alarm," Faruku said. He survived after receiving urgent medical care. No arrests have been reported. Uganda's constitution formally protects religious freedom and the right to convert, yet conversions from Islam routinely produce violent retaliation from Muslim communities. Faruku's case is one of many documented Christian persecution incidents in Uganda this year.

The Crusader's Opinion

A father and a brother cut off the hands of their own son and sibling for the crime of accepting Jesus Christ. They quoted sharia as their justification. This is not extremist fringe behaviour. It is the logical end point of an Islamic theology of apostasy that hundreds of millions of Muslims sincerely believe. Ugandan authorities must arrest and prosecute Lubega Issa and his accomplices, full stop. The international community must finally name the pattern: in country after country, leaving Islam carries a death penalty enforced by family. The Christian Faruku has paid more than enough. The world must hear his story.
