Mel Gibson Wraps Resurrection of the Christ: Two Part Epic Drops Good Friday and Ascension Day 2027
The Sequel to The Passion of the Christ Will Explore Hell, Sheol, Fallen Angels, and Satan's Origins in Cinematic Form
Twenty three years after The Passion of the Christ shocked Hollywood with a 610 million dollar global gross, Mel Gibson has finished filming its long awaited sequel, The Resurrection of the Christ, with the two part epic set to drop on the Christian calendar's most powerful days: Good Friday, 26 March 2027, and Ascension Day, 6 May 2027.
The film was shot at Cinecittà Studios in Rome and at historic locations in southern Italy including Matera.
Mel Gibson Resurrection of the Christ Sequel Explores Heaven, Hell, and Satan

Gibson co wrote the screenplay with Randall Wallace, the writer behind Braveheart. He has described the project as a theological exploration calling the experience "an acid trip" in storytelling terms. The narrative will explore Hell, Sheol, fallen angels, and the origins of Satan, departing from a straight Gospel retelling.
The cast is entirely new. Finnish actor Jaakko Ohtonen plays Jesus. Mariela Garriga plays Mary Magdalene. Riccardo Scamarcio plays Pontius Pilate. Kasia Smutniak plays Mary. Pier Luigi Pasino plays Peter. Rupert Everett takes a supporting role. Gibson opted for full recasting rather than digital de aging technology due to cost. The original film remains one of cinema's highest grossing independent productions.
The Crusader's Opinion
Hollywood spent decades sneering at faith based film, then watched The Passion of the Christ outperform every blockbuster of its release year. Mel Gibson is back with a project that promises to drag global cinema into themes the Church takes for granted but the secular world will not even discuss: hell, the origin of Satan, the cosmic battle. Christians should pray for this film, support it, and bring sceptical neighbours to it on opening weekend. Cultural reformation does not happen by accident. It happens when bold Christian artists tell the truth without flinching.
