Lord Toby Young Stands With British Jews and Calls Out the Church of Englands Silence

Campaign Against Antisemitism Speech Demands More From Anglican Leaders as 270,000 British Jews Face Rising Hatred

Lord Toby Young has delivered a powerful speech in support of Britain's 270,000 Jews, calling on the Church of England to abandon its silence and stand up to the rising tide of antisemitism sweeping the United Kingdom. The speech, delivered at a Campaign Against Antisemitism protest on 30 April 2026, came one day after two Jewish men were stabbed in Golders Green.

"Without Benjamin Disraeli, we might not have a Conservative Party either," Young told the crowd, listing the immense Jewish contributions to British civic life over 200 years. "Prime Minister, we need to protect this precious, vital, patriotic minority."

Why the Church of England Must Stand With British Jews Now

The Free Speech Union's 5th Anniversary — Toby Young's speech!

The article, written by Julian Mann, calls on the Church of England to follow Young's example, speak out vocally, and combat the toxic narrative that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, a narrative that has fuelled antisemitic violence on British streets.

Mann singles out Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell's November 2025 accusation of "genocidal acts" by Israel as deeply problematic and a contributor to anti Jewish sentiment. The CofE, Mann argues, must now choose: stand with the Jewish people of Britain, or risk being remembered as the Church that watched and said nothing.

The Crusader's Opinion

The Christian Church owes the Jewish people more than silence. We were grafted into the olive tree. Our Saviour was a Jewish carpenter. Our Apostles preached first in synagogues. Antisemitism is a sin against the very root of Christianity. Lord Toby Young, who is not even an Anglican, just stood up for British Jews more clearly than the Archbishop of York. That is a scandal. The Church of England has many flaws. Silence in the face of antisemitism must not be one of them. Bishops, speak. Now.
