Lib Dems Forced to Pay £250,000 GBP After Persecuting a Christian Out of Politics

Liberal Democrats Admit Unlawful Anti Christian Discrimination Against Sutton and Cheam Candidate David Campanale

Britain's Liberal Democrat Party has formally admitted to unlawful religious discrimination against a Christian parliamentary candidate after a four year legal battle, agreeing to pay damages exceeding £250,000 for what one barrister called "several significant acts of unlawful direct and indirect discrimination" because of his Christian beliefs.

Lay Anglican and former BBC journalist David Campanale was deselected as the party's candidate for Sutton and Cheam ahead of the 2024 election after activists targeted his historic links to the Christian People's Alliance and his openly Christian convictions. He was replaced by Luke Taylor, who now sits as the constituency's MP.

Christian Beliefs Now Treated as Disqualifying in British Politics

"It's time for all political parties to recognise Christianity as the foundation of Britain's democracy," Campanale said following the settlement.

The verdict has alarmed senior Christian voices across the political spectrum. Former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams called the precedent "worrying" and warned "it may be impossible" for faithful Christians to stand as Lib Dem candidates in future. Former Justice Minister Sir Simon Hughes condemned the "clearly illiberal, discriminatory, anti Christian comments" deployed against Campanale.

The case was crowdfunded by roughly 1,500 supporters through CitizenGo. Barrister Alasdair Henderson confirmed the Lib Dems had admitted the discrimination targeted Campanale's "protected beliefs" under UK equality law.

The Crusader's Opinion

The party that brands itself "Liberal" has been caught red handed purging a man for the crime of believing what every Briton's grandparents believed. Christianity built this nation, its parliament, its courts, its very freedoms, and now openly confessing it gets you blacklisted by the political class. Campanale won, but make no mistake: this rot runs through every major party. The faithful must stop apologising and start contesting. Britain's Christian heritage is not a liability. It is the only thing worth defending.
