Detransitioner Author Walt Heyer Speaks the Truth About Gender Affirming Care After Decades of Hormones and Operations

Detransitioner and Christian author Walt Heyer has issued a public truth telling in The Christian Post warning that "gender affirming care" is mis diagnosing childhood trauma as gender dysphoria, causing irreversible harm to vulnerable people, including children.

Heyer underwent every major gender affirming surgery, took female hormones for over a decade, and has now spent years detransitioned and warning others.

Why a Detransitioner Says Gender Ideology Is Built on a Lie

"I was not born in the wrong body. I did not need female hormones or surgery," Heyer writes. "What I needed was a trauma therapist to help me grapple with my early life trauma, and I needed Jesus."

Heyer attributes his transition to a misdiagnosis by his therapist Dr Paul Walker, who he says dismissed serious childhood trauma including sexual abuse. He warns that "gender affirming care and language require the rest of us to profess something we know is not true." His central argument is that what he and many others actually needed was Christ, counselling, and the truth, not a scalpel.

Walt Heyer's testimony is the most damning indictment of the gender industrial complex in print today. He has lived inside the lie. He has paid the price in flesh and bone. And he is now standing up to say the emperor has no clothes. Christians must learn from his witness. Compassion never demands that we lie. Real love confronts trauma at its root and points the wounded to the only true Healer. Every parent considering "affirming" their child's distress should read Heyer first. Every pastor too.
