Greg Abbott Threatens to Pull Half a Million Dollars in Texas Funding Over a Muslim Only Waterpark Event
Texas Governor Calls DFW Eid Celebration at Publicly Funded Epic Waters Waterpark Religious Discrimination as City Faces May 11 Deadline
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has threatened to revoke approximately 530,000 dollars in state funding from the city of Grand Prairie over a Muslim only Eid celebration at the publicly funded Epic Waters Indoor Waterpark. The governor declared the event "religious discrimination" and gave the city until 11 May 2026 to confirm the event will not proceed.
"Facilities funded by ALL taxpayers are not just for a subset of Texans," Abbott said.
Texas Governor Targets Muslim Only Eid Event at Publicly Funded Texas Waterpark

The DFW Eid Celebration is scheduled for 1 June 2026 at the public waterpark and includes a modest dress code, halal food, and prayer facilities. Andrew Friedrichs, Executive Director of the PSO, compared the event to advertising a "Whites only" gathering.
Event organiser Aminah Knight insists the event is privately funded and welcomes anyone willing to follow the modest dress standards. Grand Prairie Mayor Ron Jensen and city spokesman Eric Alvarez are reviewing options under the deadline. Five active state grants totalling 530,000 dollars hang in the balance.
The Crusader's Opinion
For decades Christian conservatives have been told that public facilities cannot host Christian events because of "separation of church and state." Now a publicly funded Texas waterpark is being booked for a Muslim only event with religious dress codes and prayer rooms, and the same progressives who blocked Christian rentals are silent. Abbott is right. Either public facilities are open to all on the same terms, or no one. The double standard is the discrimination. Texas is leading. Other Republican governors should follow.
