Bryce Crawford Challenges Kenneth Copeland on the Prosperity Gospel in Rare Sit Down Interview
Evangelist and social media influencer Bryce Crawford, 22, has landed the first scheduled one on one sit down interview with televangelist Kenneth Copeland, 89, in more than 15 years.
The podcast, released on March 30, 2026, as Episode 186 of The Bryce Crawford Podcast, ran for over two hours and covered some of the most debated topics in modern Christianity.
Crawford, who hosts the popular "Jesus in the Street" podcast and is currently touring the U.S. on his "I Love Jesus" tour, made his position clear before the conversation began.
I do not agree with the prosperity gospel.
Bryce Crawford said ahead of the interview.
Despite that disagreement, Crawford approached the conversation with humility and a desire to understand. He asked Copeland direct questions about healing, finances, suffering, and the true cost of following Jesus.
Copeland opened by clarifying a frequently misquoted biblical principle.
Money is not the root of all evil. The love of it is.
Kenneth Copeland stated, shifting the focus from material wealth to the condition of the heart.
Copeland also emphasized that genuine prosperity starts with salvation, declaring that "true prosperity begins with John 3:16," pointing to Christ's redemptive work as the ultimate measure of blessing rather than financial gain.
Crawford introduced an important counterbalance by referencing the apostle Paul's struggles and the reality that not every believer experiences visible breakthroughs. He reflected that his own commitment to ministry was rooted in pursuing Jesus Himself, not secondary benefits.
The discussion covered Copeland's early life during the Great Depression in Texas, his 1961 marriage to Gloria, and the founding of Kenneth Copeland Ministries in the mid 1960s. The conversation also touched on tithing practices, divine health teachings, and the Word of Faith doctrine.
Copeland's granddaughter, Courtney Copeland Acuna, who serves as Chief Marketing Officer of KCM and helped facilitate the interview, responded positively.
I know Bryce doesn't agree necessarily on everything... But I think it went really well. It actually made me wish that maybe my grandfather did do interviews more often.
Courtney Copeland Acuna said.

The interview has generated significant online discussion among Christian audiences, reflecting broader debates about televangelist teachings within evangelical circles. Patheos commentator Shawn Paul Wood wrote that while Crawford does not fully agree with Copeland's teaching, "at least he asked the questions with an open heart."

The Crusader's Opinion
Credit where credit is due. A 22 year old kid sat down with one of the most controversial televangelists alive and asked the questions millions of Christians have been whispering behind closed doors for decades. No ambush. No gotcha moment. Just honest, respectful dialogue about whether the prosperity gospel actually lines up with Scripture. The Church desperately needs more of this. Not cancellation. Not avoidance. Real conversation. If Kenneth Copeland's theology can stand up to scrutiny, let it. If it cannot, let that be exposed in the light of God's Word. Iron sharpens iron, and the Body of Christ grows stronger when we stop running from hard questions and start confronting them face to face.
Take Action
- Watch the full two hour interview on The Bryce Crawford Podcast on YouTube and form your own opinion based on Scripture.
- Open your Bible to 1 Timothy 6:6-10 and study what Paul actually said about money, contentment, and godliness. Discuss it with your small group or Bible study this week.
- If you know someone caught up in prosperity theology who is struggling with unanswered prayers, reach out with compassion. Point them to passages like 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 about Paul's thorn in the flesh.
- Support ministries that serve persecuted Christians who follow Jesus at great personal cost, not for material gain: www.TheShepherdsShield.org, Open Doors, and Voice of the Martyrs.
- Have the hard conversations in your own church. If your pastor is teaching something you question, approach them respectfully and ask them to show you from the Word. That is not rebellion. That is discipleship.
