Former Christian Ministry Leader Who Closed Sexual Orientation Change Programme in 2013 Now Faces Three Charges After Undercover Operation
The former president of Exodus International, Alan Chambers, 54, has been arrested by the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Florida on 21 May 2026 for solicitation of a minor, transmission of harmful material to minors, and unlawful use of a two way communication device.
Chambers allegedly attempted to arrange sexual contact with someone he believed was a 14 year old boy during an undercover sting. He was released on a $15,000 bond.
How Alan Chambers Went From Christian Ministry Leader to Solicitation Charges

Exodus International, founded in the 1970s, was once one of America's most prominent Christian ministries addressing unwanted same sex attraction. Chambers led the organisation for years before closing it in 2013 and dramatically reversing his public position.
He apologised to the LGBT community and described conversion therapy as "dangerous," acknowledging he had never witnessed complete sexual orientation change in the people he worked with.
Chambers's closing public statement at the time was: "God is calling us to be the father, to welcome everyone, to love unhindered." The Orange County charges, if proven, would represent a devastating personal betrayal of every claim he made during and after his ministry years.
The Crusader's Opinion
Alan Chambers's arrest is a tragedy with many layers. He once led a ministry that claimed transformation. He then renounced it and embraced a softer view. Now he stands accused of trying to abuse a child. Whatever the verdict, the case is a warning for every Christian leader. There is no substitute for personal holiness, accountability, and the daily mortification of sin. Chambers's spiritual story is being told in court. Pray for the alleged victim's family. Pray for justice. Pray for Christian leaders who tell the world one thing and live another.
