Finnish Supreme Court Ruled That Religious Freedom Does Not Protect Christian Statements That Contradict Government Approved Science

The deeper logic behind Finland's 3 to 2 conviction of MP Päivi Räsänen is even more chilling than the verdict itself. According to a new analysis by Martin Davie published on 10 May 2026, the Finnish Supreme Court convicted Räsänen because her 2004 pamphlet contained statements the court deemed unscientific, even though they were grounded in Scripture.

The pamphlet, Male and Female He Created Them: Homosexual Relationships Challenge the Christian Concept of Humanity, has now been judged a criminal incitement to hatred.

How Finland Used Modern Sexology to Convict a Christian MP for Biblical Speech

The court cited a 2020 National Institute for Health and Welfare report stating homosexuality is "part of the normal spectrum of sexuality" and ruled that Räsänen had contradicted that report by calling it "a disorder of psychosexual development."

The decisive sentence in the judgment: "religious freedom does not protect the fact that opinions that are not related to religion are presented in the framework of religious writing." In plain English: a Christian cannot quote the Bible if the surrounding argument contradicts modern medical consensus.

The court also cited research linking discriminatory attitudes to "depression and self harm among homosexuals." Davie argues the conviction rests on three dangerous assumptions: treating science as infallible, treating scientific authorities as beyond question, and criminalising speech based on alleged psychological harm rather than direct incitement to violence. Räsänen has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights.

The Crusader's Opinion

The Finnish Supreme Court has just announced that the Bible can be quoted, but only as long as the application of the Bible aligns with whatever the National Institute for Health and Welfare publishes that decade. This is the new state religion. Christians may believe what they like privately, but the moment they publish, the moment they preach, the moment they apply, the latest sexological monograph trumps the Word of God. Päivi Räsänen is fighting for every Christian in Europe. The ECHR must overturn this. If it does not, Europe enters its post Christian phase as a formal legal matter.
