Every British Lawmaker Just Received a Book Proving Christianity Built Western Civilisation
The Christian Institute sent Dr Sharon James's book on Christianity's transformative impact to every parliamentarian across the UK this Easter.
Christian Institute Sends Book on Christianity's Impact to Every British Parliamentarian This Easter
The Christian Institute has sent copies of Dr Sharon James's book "How Christianity Transformed the World" to every parliamentarian across the United Kingdom ahead of Easter 2026.
Politicians in Westminster, Holyrood, Cardiff Bay and Stormont each received the book as a gift, accompanied by a letter from the Institute's Director, Ciaran Kelly, who wrote:
"As Easter approaches, please accept this small gift as a mark of our appreciation for your contribution to public service." Ciaran Kelly, Director of The Christian Institute
Dr James, who serves as Social Policy Analyst for The Christian Institute, told Christian Today that she has observed a renewed openness among younger generations towards exploring Britain's Christian heritage. She pointed to people seeking "a higher, weightier purpose in life" beyond materialism.
She also noted that the ideology of the sexual revolution has "resulted in an ocean of exploitation and abuse," contributing to a growing willingness to revisit the foundations of Christian faith in public life.
"Without the impact of Christians following the teachings of Christ in the public square, the world would be less just, less free, less educated, more cruel, and more poor." Dr Sharon James
The book examines Christianity's historical influence on human rights, the dignity of women, religious freedom, philanthropy, healthcare and education. It cites examples including the work of Sarah Martin in prison reform and Robert Raikes's Sunday school movement, which educated approximately one quarter of England's children by 1831.
Dr James highlighted a "huge religious literacy gap" among politicians and expressed hope the book would improve their understanding of Christian teachings and the faith's role in shaping British society.
The Christian Institute reported receiving many warm messages of appreciation from members of each of the parliaments who received the book.
British MPs Receive Easter Gift Celebrating Christianity's Role in Shaping Western Civilisation

Dr James, who holds a PhD from the University of Wales and studied History at Cambridge University, has served as Social Policy Analyst with The Christian Institute since 2014. Her book presents the case that Christianity has been the single greatest force for good in Western civilisation.
Kelly's letter to parliamentarians argued that ideals like justice, freedom and compassion originate from the Christian faith, and that the Institute regularly prays for those serving in public office.
The Crusader's Opinion
This is exactly the kind of bold, unapologetic action the Church needs right now. While secularists spend every waking hour trying to erase Christianity from public life, The Christian Institute walks straight into the halls of power and hands every single lawmaker a book proving that everything good about Britain was built on Christ.
Let that sink in. Human rights, education, healthcare, freedom itself. All of it rooted in the Gospel. The politicians who received this book cannot claim ignorance any longer. They have the evidence in their hands. The question is whether they will have the courage to defend the faith that built the very institutions they serve in.
