Tearfund, World Vision, and Catholic Networks Step In as State Authority Collapses Across North Kivu and Ituri Provinces

Christian aid organisations are now leading emergency Ebola response across the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The World Health Organisation declared a "public health emergency of international concern" on 17 May after 246 suspected cases and 80 confirmed deaths.

Why Christian NGOs Are Filling the Gap

The DRC's state authority has collapsed in much of the east. ADF militant attacks have driven over a million people from their homes. Christian aid organisations including Tearfund, World Vision, and Catholic mission networks have decades of local relationships and infrastructure that secular aid groups simply do not have.

Their work includes community health worker mobilisation, isolation ward staffing, vaccination support, and continued operation of mission hospitals through and around militant attacks.

The Crusader's Opinion

The Body of Christ remains where the world has withdrawn. Eastern DRC is one of the most dangerous places on earth. Christian medical workers stay. Pray for them. Fund them.
