Congress Finally Moves to Cut Off Nigeria Aid Until It Stops the Christian Genocide

Rep. Riley Moore Leads House Appropriations Bill Conditioning US Security Assistance on Nigerian Action Against Anti Christian Violence

The House Appropriations Committee has advanced a State Department funding bill that conditions US security assistance to Nigeria on measurable progress in stopping the slaughter of Nigerian Christians, marking the most serious congressional pushback yet against the genocide unfolding in Africa's most populous nation.

The bill, championed by Republican Congressman Riley Moore, demands that Nigeria curb violence against Christian communities, prosecute perpetrators, and support displaced populations before further aid is disbursed. The State Department must certify compliance and Congress will retain oversight of every dollar.

US Lawmakers Tie Aid to Christian Protection in Nigeria's Middle Belt

"This bill takes serious steps to address this crisis," Moore declared. "The United States will not turn a blind eye to the brutal persecution." He went further, calling out Abuja directly: "The Tinubu Administration is spending millions lobbying Congress while failing to adequately address the genocide."

The legislation pours millions into International Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement programs targeting "violence perpetrated by Fulani Ethnic Militia" and supports the establishment of state level police forces in Plateau and Benue states, the heart of the Christian Middle Belt. Dr Bitrus Pogu, President of the Middle Belt Forum, expressed enthusiastic support for the bill's passage.

The Crusader's Opinion

For too long Washington has treated Nigeria as a strategic partner while Nigerian Christians are buried in mass graves. Riley Moore is right. Aid must come with consequences. Every dollar of US assistance handed to Abuja while Fulani militias massacre families in Plateau and Benue is a dollar that pays for the lobbyists who tell Western officials nothing is wrong. Christians have been crying out for years. Finally a member of Congress is listening. The bill must pass, and the Senate must follow.
