Covenant Christian Academy in Greer Says Heartbroken by Breach of Trust as Greenville County Economic Crimes Unit Brings Felony Charges

Tyler McGatha, 45, the former director of Covenant Christian Academy in Greer, South Carolina, has been charged with breach of trust greater than $10,000 after allegedly taking cash payments from prospective families in exchange for guaranteed school placement. She was released on a $10,000 bond in May 2026.

The investigation by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office Economic Crimes Unit began in November 2025 when church leaders reported concerns.

How Tyler McGatha Allegedly Used Christian School Position to Defraud Families and Church

The alleged misconduct ran from January 2019 through August 2025. McGatha is accused of manipulating payroll records to credit part time employees with unearned hours, creating overpayments. Authorities also accuse her of accepting cash from prospective families in exchange for guaranteed enrollment, allegedly using the funds personally, and making unauthorized personal purchases with the church's credit card.

Covenant Christian Academy is affiliated with Covenant Church in Greer, a congregation with ties to the theologically conservative Global Methodist Church. Church and academy leadership issued a statement saying they were "heartbroken by the breach of financial trust" and pledged transparency while the legal process unfolds.

The Crusader's Opinion

Every Christian school must have airtight financial controls, dual signature requirements, monthly audits, and outside accountability. The McGatha allegations are a warning to every Christian board member in America. Trust is essential. So is verification. Pray for the affected families. Pray for Covenant Church's leadership. And every reader who serves on a Christian school board should examine their own oversight structures this week. Theft from a Christian institution betrays not just the books but the believers who funded it.
