A Catholic convent belonging to the Basilian Salvatorian Sisters in the Lebanese border village of Yaroun has been hit during the latest escalation between Hezbollah and the IDF, with the Catholic Church accusing Israel of bulldozing the religious site. President Trump simultaneously warned he is ready to "order fresh military strikes against Iran if Tehran misbehaves."

Two nuns had previously occupied the Yaroun convent but evacuated due to the spreading conflict. Israel's Foreign Ministry denied demolition claims. The Catholic Church responded that religious sites "are not military bases."

The IDF claims Hezbollah fired rockets multiple times from the convent compound during the war. The Catholic Church flatly rejects that justification. The damage adds to a growing list of incidents, including the recent destruction of solar panels in the Christian village of Debel and a Jesus statue smashed by an Israeli soldier with a sledgehammer.

The wider war, now entering its third month since beginning 28 February 2026, has disrupted roughly 20 percent of global oil and gas supplies through Iran's blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has presented a 14 point framework demanding cessation of hostilities before any nuclear talks. Trump rejected the offer, posting on Truth Social that Iran has not paid a "big enough price" for its actions over 47 years.

The Crusader's Opinion

The Christians of Lebanon are caught between Iranian backed terrorists and a war next door, and now their convents are rubble. Whether by Hezbollah rockets fired from inside or Israeli responses, the result is the same: the cradle of Maronite Christianity is being turned to dust. Trump is right to threaten Iran. Iran is the architect of this misery. But Israel must also respect that a convent is not a barracks, a cross is not a target. The West must defend its Lebanese Christian brothers and sisters before the last of them are erased.
