Britain Just Legalised Abortion Up to Birth: A Dark Day in Our History

Crime and Policing Bill Decriminalises Self Induced Abortion at Any Stage as Pro Life Britain Vows Fightback

England and Wales have just become the latest jurisdictions on earth to legalise abortion up to the moment of birth. The Crime and Policing Bill, advanced through Parliament on 1 May 2026, has effectively decriminalised self induced abortion at any stage of pregnancy.

The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) called it "a sad moment" and stated bluntly: "There is now no law in England and Wales under which a woman can be prosecuted for ending her own pregnancy, whatever the time, and whatever the reason."

UK Pro Life Movement Vows Fightback After Abortion Up to Birth Becomes Law

Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, Director of March for Life UK, called it "a dark day in our history," noting that "women can abort their child right up to birth in their home with no criminal consequence." The bill removes criminal penalties for women using mail order abortion pills past the previous 24 week limit.

SPUC has announced a Fightback campaign to launch when Parliament reconvenes in May. British Christians are mobilising in churches, march groups, and political organisations across the country to confront what is being framed as the most radical abortion regime in the Western world.

The Crusader's Opinion

Britain has just declared open season on babies in the womb at any age, including up to the very moment of birth. There is no civilised defence of this. Every infant minutes from delivery is a person, made in the image of God, knit together in the womb. Britain's MPs have voted to allow their mothers to kill them and walk free. The British Church must rise as Wilberforce did, as Shaftesbury did, with prayer, with protest, with persistent political pressure. This law will be reversed. The only question is how many babies die before it is.
