Bounties For Christian Blood: Islamic Clerics Place Bounty on Nigerian Christians

Plateau State Pastor Emmanuel Sunday Garba Faces Public Death Bounty After Sharia Clerics Demand His Killing

A coalition of Islamic clerics in Plateau State, Nigeria has openly placed a 2 million naira bounty on the head of Christian pastor Emmanuel Sunday Garba, with one cleric promising the cash reward to anyone willing to behead the believer over allegations of "blasphemy."

The death threat was made publicly. Sani Oris first offered one million naira and then doubled the bounty. Sheikh Alkali Abubakar Salihu Zaria declared "any day we cross paths with him, he is certainly going to the hereafter."

The Christian pastor's "crime" was uploading videos challenging Islamic teachings. He allegedly "cuts segments from Islamic lectures or sermons and interjects with insults," according to the clerics.

Chief Imam Murtadha Muhammad Gusau issued a chilling threat to Nigeria's legal system: "If no legal action is taken against him, then Muslims should not be blamed if they decide to take action themselves." Northern Christian Association Chairman Joseph John Hayab fired back: "There is no monopoly of violence. The fact that we choose peace should not be taken for granted."

The Crusader's Opinion

This is what sharia looks like in practice. Not classroom debate. Not abstract theology. A bounty on a pastor's head, in public, with the names of the men offering the money openly attached. Pastor Garba did not commit blasphemy. He defended the Christian faith. The Nigerian state must arrest these clerics today, or it confesses to the world that mob justice rules its northern half. Two thousand years ago another religious mob put a price on a Galilean rabbi's head. Christianity outlived them all. It will outlive these clerics too.
