Majority of Britons Believe Abandoning Christianity Will Harm Future Generations, New Poll Reveals

A bombshell new poll conducted by Whitestone has found that 52 per cent of Britons believe loosening ties with the church would be detrimental to future generations. Only 19 per cent said moving away from Christianity would be beneficial.

The survey, which gathered the views of more than 2,000 British adults, also found that 58 per cent believe Christianity still has something positive to offer Britain in governance and public morality. Meanwhile, 39 per cent of respondents consider Britain a Christian country today.

The findings were released to coincide with the opening of a two day conference at Pusey House, Oxford, titled "Christian Revival: Our Post Liberal Hope." Speakers included parliamentarian Danny Kruger MP, author Rod Dreher, philosopher and neuroscientist Dr Iain McGilchrist, and Lord Glasman of Blue Labour.

A new cultural, political and moral moment is emerging... this poll tells us politicians have an audience among voters.

Dr Jonathan Price, Director of the Centre for Theology, Law, and Culture at Pusey House, Oxford, said.

The poll also revealed stark political divides. Among Reform UK voters, 78 per cent said the country has lost its shared sense of right and wrong, and 63 per cent said British identity has become unclear. Conservative voters shared concerns about Christian decline but were less confident that moral renewal is achievable.

Just 11 per cent of respondents believe Britain currently has shared moral values and strong institutions, while 65 per cent said such foundations are crucial to holding society together.

The conference addressed what organisers described as the collapse of "the long post war consensus in the West," stating that a trans denominational Christian restoration is gathering force across the political spectrum.

Notably, monthly church attendance in England and Wales has grown 50 per cent since 2018, driven largely by young adults. Generation Z is four times more likely to attend church than six years ago. These figures add weight to the poll's findings and suggest a broader spiritual shift in British society.

The conference was presented in partnership with the Danube Institute, a Budapest based think tank, and was live streamed on YouTube for a global audience.

The Crusader's Opinion

For decades, the secular establishment told us Christianity was dying in Britain. That the pews would empty. That faith was a relic. And yet here we are: more than half the country knows in their bones that tearing out Britain's Christian roots will leave nothing but rot for their children and grandchildren. The elites may sneer, but the people have spoken. Christianity built British civilisation, its laws, its hospitals, its universities, its very conscience. Without it, you get nothing but moral anarchy dressed up as progress. The real question is not whether Britain needs Christianity. The question is whether the Church will be bold enough to answer the call.
