Bible Sales Explode in Britain as Gen Z Turns to God and Even Secular Media Admits It
Bible sales in Britain doubled since 2019 as Gen Z leads a quiet revival. Even secular Telegraph columnist Celia Walden admits the Bible might save British youth.
Bible Sales Surge to Record Levels in Britain as Gen Z Leads a Quiet Revival
Bible sales in Britain have more than doubled compared to pre pandemic levels, reaching their highest point since the 1990s. In 2025, sales rose by 19%, driven largely by a surge of interest from Generation Z.
The remarkable trend caught the attention of secular columnist Celia Walden, who wrote in The Daily Telegraph on March 10, 2026, that "The Bible might just save Britain's self obsessed youth." Anglican minister Julian Mann, writing for Christian Today, noted this was an extraordinary endorsement from a lifestyle and entertainment column in a national newspaper.
"I do not recall reading such a strong plug for the Bible and Christian faith in a column covering lifestyle and entertainment." Julian Mann, Christian Today
Walden argued that Gen Z is "tired of the superficiality and the self obsession," turning instead to Scripture for spiritual grounding amid ongoing economic and political turbulence. The data supports this cultural shift. According to the Bible Society's "Quiet Revival" report, church attendance among 18 to 24 year olds quadrupled from 4% to 16% between 2018 and 2024.
Young men have shown a particularly marked increase, with 21% now attending church regularly, up from just 4% in 2018. The number of 18 to 24 year olds who say they believe in God has more than doubled from 16% to 37% between 2021 and 2025.
Mann also reflected on the contrast between the cultural landscape when he was ordained in 1996 and today. He suggested that ministers entering the Church of England in 2026 may find a far more receptive audience for the Christian message than their predecessors experienced 30 years ago.
Annual Bible sales in the UK skyrocketed by 134% from £2.69 million in 2019 to £6.3 million in 2025. The bestselling translation was the English Standard Version (ESV), with publishers reporting increased demand for study Bibles and accessible formats designed for first time readers.
Secular Media Acknowledges Christianity's Growing Influence Among British Youth

Mann also addressed a separate column by Walden from March 3, in which she questioned why former Archbishop Justin Welby required therapy despite his Christian faith. Mann explained the theological concept of "common grace," arguing that professional mental health support and Christian faith are complementary rather than competing resources.
Among churchgoers, younger people now read the Bible more often than older Christians, with 80% of 18 to 34 year olds reading Scripture at least once a week. The church has also become more ethnically diverse, rising from one in five churchgoers from an ethnic minority in 2018 to one in three in 2024.
The Crusader's Opinion
When even the secular press admits that the Bible holds more answers than their ideologies ever could, you know the tide is turning. For decades, the British establishment mocked Christianity, pushed it to the margins, and told an entire generation that faith was outdated superstition. Now that same generation is picking up their Bibles while the commentators who sneered at God are writing columns admitting He might be right after all. This is not some cultural fad. This is the Holy Spirit at work. Revival does not need permission from the media. But it is remarkable when the world itself starts to confess what believers have always known: Christ is the only hope for any nation.
