Belgian Radio Hosts Smash Statues of Jesus and Mary on Air, Then Admit They Would Never Do the Same to Islamic Symbols
Three presenters from Belgium's publicly funded youth radio station, Studio Brussel (VRT), destroyed statues of Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary with hammers during a live broadcast in January 2026.
The segment, billed as a "Blue Monday" sketch to help listeners "beat the blue out of Monday," showed hosts Eva De Roo, Dries Lenaerts, and executive producer Sam De Bruyn smashing crockery, a computer screen, and Christian statues in a rage room. The presenters said the destruction "felt good."
The incident resurfaced in March when EWTN News correspondent Colm Flynn confronted the trio at the Radiodays Europe conference in Riga, Latvia. Flynn asked the hosts directly whether they would smash a symbol of the Prophet Muhammad.
"If you were doing the video again, would you smash a symbol of the prophet Muhammad?"
De Roo responded that she would not, citing the large Muslim population in Belgium. Flynn pressed back, pointing out that Belgium also has a significant Christian population.
"You see that hypocrisy: Jesus Christ statue, smash it in two, but never for Muhammad or for anything to do with the Jewish faith."
De Bruyn acknowledged that smashing Islamic symbols would be "dangerous" and admitted he would have been "more careful in another country, definitely." De Roo attempted to justify the segment as "self critique" based on their Christian cultural background but later admitted discomfort with the incident.
Belgian Media Minister Cieltje Van Achter described the confrontation interview as "painful." VRT spokesperson Yasmine Van der Borght issued an apology, stating the video was "intended as a humorous piece" and that the presenters "underestimated how sensitive religious symbols can be."
Belgium is 59% non religious, with the majority of religious adherents identifying as Roman Catholic. Flynn's interview has since been viewed hundreds of thousands of times on social media.
VRT Studio Brussel Apologizes After Hosts Destroy Christian Statues but Refuse to Touch Islamic Symbols

The apology from VRT read: "Eva and Dries offer their apologies. The video was intended as a humorous piece, and they underestimated how sensitive religious symbols can be. They understand that this was offensive to some people and would make different choices today."
De Bruyn also claimed that "all the things we smashed" were "already broken," as though this somehow justified the desecration of sacred Christian images.
The Crusader's Opinion
Let us be absolutely clear about what happened here. Three adults on a publicly funded radio station took hammers to statues of Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother, laughed about it on camera, and then admitted they would never dare do the same to Islamic symbols because it would be "dangerous."
That single word tells you everything. They know Christianity is the only faith the modern West permits you to mock, desecrate, and spit upon without consequence. They are not brave. They are cowards who target the faith they know will turn the other cheek.
If a European broadcaster smashed a symbol of Muhammad on live television, there would be riots, international condemnation, and criminal charges within the hour. But a statue of Christ? That is just comedy. That is just "beating the blue out of Monday."
Belgian taxpayers fund VRT. Christian Belgians fund VRT. And VRT repaid them by desecrating the holiest images of their faith for cheap entertainment. An apology is not enough. This is the anti Christian rot at the heart of secular Europe, and it will not stop until Christians refuse to accept it.
