Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon Challenges Christians to Write Better Books at NRB 2026 Convention

Seth Dillon, CEO of The Babylon Bee, delivered a fiery call to action at the National Religious Broadcasters 2026 International Christian Media Convention in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday, February 20, 2026.

Speaking to thousands of Christian media professionals at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, Dillon challenged the audience with a provocative declaration.

"We don't need more Christian books; we need more good books written by Christians."

Dillon, whose satirical news site has surpassed The Onion in web traffic, argued that humor remains one of the most powerful weapons against bad ideas. He urged attendees to stop practicing what he called "soft censorship," the act of biting their tongues to protect followers or revenue.

"We have to stop caring what freedom might cost us."

The Babylon Bee CEO shared the story of how his site was locked out of Twitter in 2022 after publishing a satirical headline about a Biden administration official. That incident sparked an unexpected chain of events, ultimately leading to Elon Musk restoring the account with a message opposing censorship of comedy.

Dillon referenced the Asch conformity experiments to illustrate how one honest voice can shatter groupthink. He told the crowd that when just one person refuses to go along with a lie, others find the courage to speak up as well.

The speech also addressed the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, with Dillon asserting that violence represents a complete failure in the marketplace of ideas. He called on Christians to engage the culture with both courage and excellence rather than retreating into safe religious spaces.

Dillon's message was clear: quality over quantity. Rather than flooding the market with mediocre content that only speaks to the church choir, Christians should create excellent work that competes in the broader cultural marketplace.

The NRB 2026 Convention drew more than 5,700 Christian media professionals and featured 240 exhibitors across 56,000 square feet of convention space. Other notable speakers included President Donald Trump, who addressed attendees virtually, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The Crusader's Opinion

Seth Dillon is absolutely right. For too long, Christians have settled for second rate content that only preaches to the converted. The world is drowning in godless ideology packaged in slick, compelling media, and we respond with bland devotionals and predictable talking points. That is not good enough. If the Gospel is the most powerful truth in human history, our books, our films, our satire should reflect that power. The Babylon Bee proved that Christians can beat the secular world at its own game. Now the rest of us need to step up. Stop retreating. Start creating work so excellent that even your enemies have to pay attention.
