At least 60 people have been massacred in a string of coordinated attacks across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, with reports indicating the killings were carried out by Islamic State affiliated militants targeting Christian communities in the region.

The slaughter, reported on 5 May 2026, is the latest atrocity in a years long campaign by the Allied Democratic Forces, the ISIS aligned group operating across the DRC's restive eastern provinces of North Kivu and Ituri.

The Allied Democratic Forces, originally a Ugandan rebel group, pledged allegiance to the Islamic State years ago and has since become one of the most prolific killers of Christians in Africa. Their tactics are brutal: night time raids on sleeping villages, civilians butchered with machetes, churches burned, and entire families wiped out in minutes.

The eastern DRC has become one of the most dangerous places on earth to be a Christian. Despite repeated United Nations resolutions and joint operations between Congolese and Ugandan armed forces, the ADF continues to operate with near impunity in the densely forested regions east of Beni. Local Christian leaders have repeatedly begged the international community to recognise these attacks for what they are: a deliberate, religiously motivated campaign of extermination.

Sixty more brothers and sisters in Christ butchered in their own villages by Islamic State foot soldiers, and the Western press will not name the killers, the religion, or the victims. The ADF is not a "rebel group." It is a militant Islamic franchise of Daesh, and its body count of African Christians dwarfs almost any other terror group on earth. Where is the outrage? Where are the sanctions? The Christians of eastern Congo are being erased one village at a time, and the world looks away. We will not. Pray. Speak. Demand action.
