Angel Studios Faces Massive Christian Backlash Over Tucker Carlson Socialism Scandal

Over 70 Christian Leaders Demand Angel Studios Stop Advertising on Tucker Carlson After Guest Claims Christianity Is Socialism

More than 70 Christian clergy, leaders, and laypeople have signed a petition urging Angel Studios, the faith based entertainment company behind The Chosen and Sound of Freedom, to pull its advertising from the Tucker Carlson Network.

The letter, coordinated by Luke Moon's organization 2Hammers, was sent in response to a recent interview in which filmmaker Nathan Apffel told Carlson that "Christianity is more and I don't like the word 'socialist' with the weight it carries but Christianity is socialism at its core."

Apffel made the remarks during a lengthy discussion about alleged financial excesses in some ministries and the prosperity gospel movement on The Tucker Carlson Show.

The petition's signatories include prominent figures such as Christian author Eric Metaxas, Institute on Religion and Democracy President Mark Tooley, and Summit Ministries President Jeff Myers.

Christianity transcends modern political ideologies. While it calls believers to care for widows, orphans, the poor, and the oppressed, Christianity does not support compulsive generosity managed by state bureaucracies.

The letter expressed gratitude to Angel Studios for producing "content that seeks to uplift, inspire, and proclaim the message of Christ," but argued that advertising on Carlson's platform contradicts that mission.

Angel Studios, based in Provo, Utah, is currently promoting its animated adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm, set for theatrical release on May 1, 2026. Critics have noted the irony of advertising an anti communist film on a show where a guest equated Christianity with socialism.

The 2Hammers email to subscribers also accused Carlson of an "increasing volume of vitriolic, libelous, and un Christian messaging against Jews, American values, and fellow believers." Angel Studios did not respond to requests for comment from The Christian Post.

Christian Authors and Leaders Push Back Against Socialism Claims on Tucker Carlson Show

Filmmaker Nathan Apffel in a scene from The Religion Business documentary discussing church finances and accountability

Apffel's documentary series, The Religion Business, investigates financial transparency and alleged corruption within megachurches and ministries. While the documentary raises legitimate questions about nonprofit accountability, the signatories argued that equating Christianity with socialism fundamentally misrepresents the faith.

The petition stated that this characterization is "not only historically and theologically inaccurate, but it also risks confusing and misleading viewers about the nature of the Christian faith."

The Crusader's Opinion

Christianity is not socialism and it never was. The early church shared voluntarily out of love. Socialism confiscates by force through the state. These are not the same thing and any honest reading of Scripture makes that distinction crystal clear. When Christ said "give to the poor," He was speaking to individual hearts, not commissioning a government bureaucracy. The fact that a major faith based studio is bankrolling a platform that peddles this theological confusion should alarm every believer. Angel Studios built its brand on Christian audiences. Those audiences have a right to demand better. Seventy leaders signed this letter. Millions more are watching.
