Greater Than Alliance Mobilises 100 US Organisations to Defend Children's Right to a Mother and Father in the Gay Marriage Era

Christian author and family advocate Katy Faust, founder of Them Before Us, has launched the Greater Than Alliance, the first national coalition in any country dedicated to restoring marriage as a child centred institution after a decade of same sex marriage legalisation. The coalition unites approximately 100 US organisations and individuals.

"If you believe in gay marriage, mothers and fathers are optional in the life of a child," Faust said.

Faust frames marriage not as adult validation but as a child welfare institution: "It is and always has been the tool that nearly every society throughout history has used to unite children to their mother and father." Her coalition takes aim at adoption, surrogacy, and birth registration policies that increasingly frame parenthood as legal rather than biological.

"Adoption doesn't exist for adults," Faust said. "This is not some vehicle to have a DEI win on the registry." She argues that "if biology does not matter when it comes to parenthood, you render children as legal accessories." The coalition will press for legal and linguistic reforms across Western nations to restore "the natural contours of the family," with Britain identified as already shifting toward purely legal definitions of parenthood.

For two decades the same sex marriage debate was framed as adult freedom versus religious conservatism. Faust has refused to play that game. She has put the spotlight where it always belonged: on the children whose connection to mother and father has been quietly written out of the law. Every child knows in their bones that they were made by a man and a woman. To pretend otherwise in law is to teach children to lie about their own existence. Faust is right to lead this fight. Christians must stand with her. The coalition is the future of pro family activism.
