Young Americans Believe Spiritual Revival Is Coming as Gen Z and Millennials Turn to Christ in Record Numbers

Nearly four in ten Gen Z adults believe a spiritual revival will happen in the United States within the next 12 months, according to new research from the Barna Group conducted in partnership with Gloo.

The February 2026 poll of 1,073 U.S. adults found that 38% of Gen Z respondents said revival would "definitely" or "probably" occur, compared to 25% of millennials, 29% of Gen X, and 28% of baby boomers. Overall, 29% of American adults believe revival is on the horizon, representing roughly 80 million people.

Barna CEO David Kinnaman highlighted the significance of the findings.

Yet, it reveals something worth paying attention to: a large number of Americans believe one is possible and for younger adults especially, that belief is being forged in some of the most difficult circumstances of their lives.

A separate October 2025 survey of 2,927 U.S. adults who believe revival is coming explored the reasons behind that optimism. Prayer was the top factor cited by both Gen Z and millennials at 43%. Young generations turning to God was cited by 38% of Gen Z and 40% of millennials, while the search for meaning and purpose was named by 34% of Gen Z and 38% of millennials.

Mental health challenges were a significant driver for Gen Z specifically, with 42% identifying them as a catalyst for revival, compared to 32% of millennials. Anxiety was also a major factor, cited by 35% of Gen Z and 30% of millennials.

The data aligns with a broader trend of rising faith engagement among younger Americans. The percentage of millennial males who say they have made a personal commitment to follow Jesus surged from 52% in 2019 to 71% in 2025. Among Gen Z, the same commitment rose from 52% to 67% over the same period.

Church attendance data tells a similar story. Gen Z churchgoers now attend an average of 1.9 times per month, millennials average 1.8 times, while Gen X attends 1.6 times and baby boomers just 1.4 times per month.

Bible engagement has also surged among the young. Millennials jumped 16 points to reach 50% reading the Bible weekly, while Gen Z rose from 30% to 49% in just one year. Bible sales hit a 21 year high in the United States in 2025, with 19 million copies sold.

The Crusader's Opinion

The secular world spent decades writing Christianity's obituary. Every think piece, every culture war headline, every mocking late night monologue told us the faith was dying with the boomers. And now God is doing what He always does: confounding the wise with the foolish. Gen Z is finding Jesus not in spite of their suffering but because of it. Anxiety, hopelessness, and a world stripped of meaning drove them to the only Source of real answers. Eighty million Americans believe revival is coming. I say it has already begun.
