75,000 Prayer Booklets a Year: How Trypraying Is Turning Sceptics Into Seekers
A simple prayer booklet called trypraying has doubled its orders to 75,000 annually, now reaching 12 countries with a new Armed Forces edition endorsed by Bear Grylls.
How a Simple Prayer Booklet Is Reaching Thousands of Non Christians Across the UK and Beyond
A simple seven day prayer guide called trypraying is rapidly expanding its reach, engaging thousands of non Christians in prayer for the very first time. The initiative, which began in Edinburgh 16 years ago, is now active in 12 countries worldwide.
Emma Weaver, development coordinator at trypraying, revealed that over 1,000 UK churches and individuals ordered booklets last year alone. Orders have doubled, with approximately 75,000 books shipped annually.
They love the simplicity of it that is the success of trypraying.
Weaver attributed the booklet's appeal to its accessible approach, particularly its opening prayer:
God if you're there, and I don't think you are, but if you are I want to know you.
The organisation has recently launched several major new editions. A redesigned youth booklet features a completely new aesthetic aimed at teenagers, and orders for this version have also doubled.
Most notably, trypraying released a brand new Armed Forces edition for the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, British Army, and Royal Marines. The booklet carries a foreword by Bear Grylls and has already distributed 10,000 copies to service personnel within two months of launch.
Internationally, trypraying has launched in South Africa, Germany, Spain, France, and Ukraine. The organisation aims to recruit 2,000 volunteers in the UK this year and expand into Caribbean, Australian, New Zealand, American, and Canadian markets.
Trypraying's Bold Mission to Bring Prayer to the Unchurched Worldwide

Weaver emphasised the importance of patience and a non confrontational approach when churches distribute the booklets. Rather than pushing doctrine, she encourages congregations to simply offer the guide and let people explore faith on their own terms.
Encourage them to read the booklet and if they like it, good, and if not, that is fine.
Free copies of the trypraying booklet are available through the organisation's website at trypraying.org.
The Crusader's Opinion
This is what evangelism looks like when the Church stops overthinking it. No committees. No focus groups. No watered down theology. Just a simple booklet that says, "God, if you're there, I want to know you." That opening prayer has more raw honesty than a thousand seeker sensitive sermon series. The fact that Bear Grylls is putting his name behind it and 75,000 copies are flying out the door every year tells you something. People are hungry for God. They just need someone to hand them the invitation. Every church in the West should be putting these booklets in every coffee shop, every waiting room, every barracks. We have been given the Great Commission, not the Great Suggestion.
