61% of Young Brits Have No Religion: Humanists Celebrate as Bible Society Scrambles After Quiet Revival Collapse
New analysis claims 61% of UK under 35s have no religion, as Bible Society retracts flawed Quiet Revival report.
Is Christianity Dying in Britain? New Data Shows 61% of Young People Under 35 Have No Religion
Days after the Bible Society retracted its controversial "Quiet Revival" report, Humanists UK has released a new analysis of the British Social Attitudes Survey 2024 claiming that non religious identity among young people in the United Kingdom represents a permanent shift rather than a temporary phase.
The analysis found that 61% of those aged 16 to 34 identify with no religion, and that 94% of young people raised without a religious background maintain that identity into adulthood. Only 4% of non religious youth in that age bracket adopted any form of Christianity.
Half of the total UK population now identifies as non religious, according to the survey data. Church of England identification has dropped dramatically across generations, from 21% among those over 75 to just 2.6% among 16 to 34 year olds.
Janet Ellis, Humanists UK president, stated:
Young people are living thoughtful, values driven lives without any religious framework.
Humanists UK CEO Andrew Copson asserted that Britain has become a "majority non religious country" and that "younger generations are leading that change."
The analysis comes in the wake of YouGov's admission that anti fraud devices were erroneously not switched on during the data collection for the Bible Society's "Quiet Revival" report, which had claimed church attendance among 18 to 24 year olds had quadrupled from 4% to 16% between 2018 and 2024.
Bible Society Pushes Back Against Claims of Permanent Secularization Among UK Youth

The Bible Society responded to the Humanists UK analysis by pointing to increased baptisms and confirmations in both Catholic and Anglican churches throughout 2024. The organization emphasized the complexity of measuring religious identity and reported year on year growth in certain metrics since the pandemic.
Despite the retraction of the "Quiet Revival" data, some observers argue that the broader story of spiritual interest among young people may still hold true, even if the specific polling numbers were flawed. However, the British Social Attitudes Survey, regarded as one of the most reliable measures of religious identity in the UK, shows no evidence of any reversal in the decades long decline of Christianity among younger generations.
The Crusader's Opinion
The secular establishment is celebrating the death of faith in Britain like it is some kind of victory. But what exactly have they won? A generation without purpose, without community, without eternal hope. When you rip the spiritual foundation out of a civilization, you do not get enlightened progress. You get loneliness, nihilism, and despair. The numbers do not lie, but neither does the emptiness in the eyes of a generation told that meaning is whatever they make of it. The Church must stop apologizing for existing and start fighting for the souls of the young. This is not the time for retreat. This is the time for a real revival.
Take Action
- Pray: Commit to daily prayer for the youth of Britain and all of Europe, that the Holy Spirit would awaken a hunger for truth in a generation that has been told faith is irrelevant.
- Share: Post this article and ask your friends: if 61% of young Brits have abandoned the faith, what is the Church doing wrong and what must it do differently?
- Donate: Support missionary and youth outreach organizations working in the UK, such as The Shepherd's Shield and Youth Alpha.
- Engage: Start a conversation with a young person in your life about faith. Do not preach at them. Listen first. The data shows they are not hostile to spirituality; they simply have never been shown why it matters.
- Support: Encourage and financially back local churches that are actively investing in youth ministry and community programs. Visit Open Doors or Voice of the Martyrs to support persecuted Christians worldwide.
