Will AI Replace Christian Writers? Left Behind Author Jerry Jenkins Says Never
Jerry Jenkins, Left Behind author, says AI cannot write from conviction or hear God's voice like skilled Christian writers
Will AI Replace Christian Writers? Bestselling "Left Behind" Author Jerry Jenkins Says No
Jerry B. Jenkins, the bestselling author of the "Left Behind" series, is pushing back against fears that artificial intelligence will make Christian writers obsolete. Jenkins, whose books have sold more than 70 million copies worldwide, argues that skilled inspired writers will always have a place that machines cannot fill.
"Technology can do many things, but it can't write from conviction, from the overflow of the passions of the heart," Jenkins said.
Technology can do many things, but it can't write from conviction, from the overflow of the passions of the heart. It can't hear the voice of God or produce writing that bears eternal, supernatural truth. Jerry B. Jenkins
Jenkins, who has authored more than 195 books and previously served as vice president for publishing at Moody Bible Institute, says he personally uses generative AI roughly two dozen times a day. He treats it as a powerful research and brainstorming tool rather than a replacement for the writer's craft.
The veteran author warned that the real danger for Christian writers is not being replaced by AI but being tempted to imitate it. He said much AI generated content is "safe, predictable, surface level work that lacks depth and authority," and that writers who mimic that style will lose the very qualities that make their voices valuable.
Jenkins made the remarks ahead of the Pinnacle Christian Writers Conference, scheduled for April 17 to 19, 2026. He is the founder of the Jerry Jenkins Writers Guild, an online community where he trains thousands of aspiring Christian authors.
Why Skilled Christian Authors Cannot Be Replaced by Generative AI
Jenkins urged writers to lean harder into the qualities that make human, Spirit led writing unique: conviction, lived experience, prayer and the voice of God. He said these are things no large language model can manufacture, no matter how advanced it becomes.
His comments echo a growing conversation inside Christian publishing about how churches, ministries and authors should use AI tools responsibly without surrendering their God given creativity.
The Crusader's Opinion
Jerry Jenkins is right, and every Christian writer needs to hear this. AI is a tool, not a prophet. It cannot kneel at an altar, weep over a wayward soul, or tremble before a holy God. The machines can mimic our words, but they will never carry the fire of the Holy Spirit. If Christian writers surrender their calling to a chatbot, the world will be flooded with polished nothingness while souls die in the dark. Write from conviction. Write from conversion. Write from the cross. No algorithm can do that, and no algorithm ever will.
