Trump Tells America Iran War Is "Nearing Completion" in First Primetime Address on Operation Epic Fury

President Donald Trump delivered his first primetime national address on the Iran war from the Cross Hall of the White House on April 1, 2026, telling the American people that U.S. forces have achieved "swift, decisive, overwhelming victories on the battlefield."

In the roughly 20 minute address, Trump declared that "Iran's navy is gone," their "air force is in ruins," and that their leaders, "most of them terrorists," are "now dead." He projected confidence that Operation Epic Fury, now in its 33rd day, is "nearing completion."

However, the president also signaled continued force, vowing to hit Iran "extremely hard" over the next two to three weeks. He warned that if no deal is reached, the U.S. would strike "each and every one of their electric generating plants very hard, and probably simultaneously."

We're going to bring them back to the stone ages where they belong.

Trump framed the conflict as a matter of existential security, arguing he could not allow the "terrorists" in the Iranian regime to obtain a nuclear weapon after 47 years of threatening the United States. He claimed Iran's ballistic missile capacity was "greatly reduced," though Pentagon officials confirmed only about one third of Iran's missile capabilities have been eliminated.

The address came as gas prices have surpassed $4 per gallon due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude spiked more than 4% to over $105 per barrel following the speech, while WTI climbed above $103 per barrel. Multiple polls show a majority of Americans disapprove of the conflict.

More than a dozen U.S. service members have been killed since Operation Epic Fury began on February 28, 2026. Admiral Brad Cooper reported that 92% of Iran's large naval ships have been destroyed. Trump approaches the 60 day War Powers Act deadline requiring congressional approval to continue operations.

Several Cabinet members attended the speech, including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

What Did Trump Say About Iran in His National Address on the War?

Notably absent from the speech was any mention of Trump's earlier claims that negotiations with Iran were underway, claims that Tehran has repeatedly denied. The address focused instead on military accomplishments and a promise of continued force.

Critics were swift to respond. Sen. Mark Warner stated that Trump's address "did little to answer the most basic questions the American people deserve when our nation is engaged in a costly and dangerous conflict with Iran." Trump offered no definitive end date for the war and no plans for ground troop deployments.

Trump also contradicted earlier statements about regime change, claiming he "never said regime change," then declaring it accomplished through the deaths of Iranian leaders, describing the new leadership as "less radical."

The Crusader's Opinion

Thirteen American service members have already paid the ultimate price. Their families deserve more than a twenty minute speech with vague timelines and recycled promises. While our troops fight and die in the Persian Gulf, the Commander in Chief tells us the war will end "shortly" without ever defining what that means. Christians across America are praying for our warriors every single night, as we should. But prayer without accountability is empty. Congress has a constitutional duty to authorize this war, and the 60 day deadline is approaching fast. If our leaders believe this cause is just, then stand before the American people and vote on it. The Iranian regime is a sponsor of terror against Christians across the Middle East, and its destruction may indeed serve the cause of justice. But justice demands honesty from those who wield the sword.
