Trump Threatens Iran, NATO Refuses to Help, and Gas Prices Explode
Trump demands NATO allies join naval coalition to secure the Strait of Hormuz as Iran war escalates and gas prices surge.
Trump Demands NATO Help Secure Strait of Hormuz as Iran War Enters Fourth Week
President Donald Trump's second term entered one of its most turbulent weeks as the United States confronted a deepening military crisis with Iran, fractured alliances with NATO, and soaring gas prices at home.
The standoff over the Strait of Hormuz dominated headlines after Iran blocked the critical waterway through which 20 percent of the world's oil supply passes. Trump issued an ultimatum demanding Iran reopen the strait, threatening to "obliterate" the country's power plants within 48 hours.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the USS Tripoli, an amphibious assault ship carrying the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit with approximately 2,200 Marines, to steam toward the Persian Gulf. The ship departed Okinawa, Japan on March 11 and is expected to arrive in the region by March 27, coinciding with Trump's deadline for Iran.
Trump called on NATO allies and other nations to join a naval coalition to escort oil tankers through the strait. Twenty two countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, signed a statement expressing willingness to "contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage." However, no country has publicly committed warships. France explicitly stated it would "never take part in operations to open or liberate the Strait of Hormuz in the current context."
We don't use the strait. We're defending the strait for everybody else, and they don't want to help us defend the strait.
Trump lashed out at allies for their reluctance, calling their response a "foolish mistake" and questioning the usefulness of the NATO alliance altogether.
On March 23, Trump abruptly shifted tone, announcing that the U.S. and Iran had engaged in "very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East." He postponed planned strikes on Iran's power plants for five days. Iran's Foreign Ministry contradicted this, stating flatly: "There is no dialogue between Tehran and Washington."
At home, gas prices spiked nearly one dollar per gallon from the previous month, costing the average American family an extra $600 annually. Trump's approval ratings remained in negative territory, with voters 11 points more likely to disapprove than approve of his job performance.
Former National Counterterrorism Center director Joe Kent resigned, citing no imminent Iranian threat. Kent appeared on Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly's shows, criticizing the administration's direction and invoking Trump's campaign promise of "no new wars."
Trump's Iran Standoff and NATO Coalition Crisis: What Christians Need to Know

Meanwhile, the SAVE America Act, which would require voter ID and proof of citizenship, failed to gain sufficient Republican support. Trump demanded Republicans eliminate the filibuster to push it through, but Senate members refused, prompting the president to promise executive action on voting rules as an alternative.
Despite internal dissent, polling shows 8 in 10 rank and file Republicans continue to support Trump and his handling of the Iran situation.
The Crusader's Opinion
The world burns, and the nations that built Western civilization refuse to lift a finger. Twenty percent of the world's oil flows through a single chokepoint, and the leaders of Europe shrug while their citizens pay the price at the pump. France won't help. NATO won't act. These are the same nations that once rallied Crusaders to defend Christendom from existential threats, and now they can't even protect their own energy supply.
Meanwhile, a regime that has persecuted Iranian Christians for decades, that sentences converts to death and raids house churches, holds the global economy hostage. Where is the outrage? Where is the solidarity? Christians in Iran have suffered under the ayatollahs for over 40 years. This is not just a geopolitical crisis. It is a spiritual one. When the West abandons its convictions, evil fills the vacuum.
