Nebraska Pastor Hank Kunneman Asks Congregation to Fund Private Jet After 10 Hour Flight Delay

Hank Kunneman, the senior pastor of Lord of Hosts Church in Omaha, Nebraska, and founder of One Voice Ministries, has launched a "travel the world fund" and invited his congregation to contribute toward the cost of a private jet.

The move came days after Kunneman experienced a commercial flight delay of more than 10 hours while traveling to a business conference in Boise, Idaho last Thursday. Faced with the prospect of missing his meeting, Kunneman said he made the decision to charter a private jet to reach his destination on time.

During his Sunday sermon, the pastor told his church members he would be seeking their financial support for the new fund.

I want to start a travel the world fund. I am gonna ask for your help, and you can give whatever you want.

Kunneman justified the request by citing his demanding schedule, explaining that his commitments as a pastor do not allow for extended airport delays without missing his pastoral duties or Sunday services. He described being "pressed" to fulfill his obligations to his church and ministry.

When asked for a scriptural basis, Kunneman said God directed him to Mark 3:9, in which Jesus instructed his disciples to have a small boat ready so the crowd would not overwhelm him. The pastor drew a comparison, suggesting that even Jesus required alternative means of transportation due to the demands of ministry.

Even Jesus was concerned about going to certain ports and airports and things because of where his ministry was at and how it affected people.

Kunneman also revealed that multiple people had prophesied over the years that his ministry would one day obtain its own jet. His wife, Brenda Kunneman, said that Texas televangelist Kenneth Copeland, who is well known for owning multiple private jets, was among those who delivered such a prophecy before the COVID 19 pandemic.

Brenda Kunneman also voiced her support for the initiative, saying simply: "I don't want him going commercial."

Kenneth Copeland, the televangelist referenced in the prophecy, has previously faced public scrutiny for his ownership of private jets. Copeland famously defended the practice in 2019, calling it "a biblical thing" and describing commercial airlines as flying in "a long tube with a bunch of demons."

Kunneman is also known as a prominent guest on the Christian news program "Flashpoint" and has drawn both a loyal following and controversy for his prophetic declarations. Lord of Hosts Church has experienced significant growth in recent years, particularly during and after the pandemic, and has acquired substantial real estate in the Omaha area.

The Crusader's Opinion

Let me be direct. When a shepherd asks the flock to buy him a jet, something has gone deeply wrong. The Gospel of Jesus Christ was spread by apostles who walked dusty roads in sandals, not by televangelists in first class cabins complaining about layovers. Using Mark 3:9, a passage about a small fishing boat to avoid being crushed by a crowd, to justify a multimillion dollar aircraft is not theology. It is grift wrapped in scripture.

Every dollar a working family in Omaha gives toward this "travel fund" is a dollar that could feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, or support missionaries who are actually being persecuted for their faith around the world. The prosperity gospel is a cancer in the body of Christ, and it thrives because good people are too afraid to call it what it is.

Take Action

  • Pray for discernment within churches and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal when leaders are serving themselves rather than the body of Christ.
  • Support ministries that actually serve persecuted Christians around the world through Open Doors or Voice of the Martyrs.
  • Donate to The Shepherd's Shield to support Christian communities under genuine threat.
  • Have an honest conversation with your family and church community about financial accountability and transparency from church leadership.
  • Research your church's financial disclosures. Healthy churches are transparent about where tithes and offerings go. If yours is not, ask why.
