NC Pastor Tammy McCollum Called Husband an "Amazing Man of God" Years Before He Allegedly Shot Her Dead

Tammy McCollum, a 58 year old minister at The Well Worship Center in Statesville, North Carolina, was fatally shot inside her home early Monday morning. Her husband of more than 30 years, Eddie McCollum, 61, has been arrested and charged with first degree murder.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department said officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon injury call shortly after 2 a.m. When they arrived, they found Tammy McCollum suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court documents, Eddie McCollum called 911 himself and told dispatchers he had shot his wife during an argument. He also told police that the firearm used in the shooting had been left on the stairs inside the home.

Eddie McCollum was questioned by detectives at the residence and taken into custody. He was assigned a public defender and given a $1 million bond at his first court appearance.

"I am truly blessed and honored to have been married to this amazing man of God for 30 years." Tammy McCollum wrote in a February 2022 Facebook post celebrating the couple's 30th wedding anniversary.

In that same post, she said she planned to spend the rest of her life with him. Those public words of devotion now stand in painful contrast to the charges her husband is facing.

Eddie McCollum worked as a teaching assistant at Southwest Middle School in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools district. School officials confirmed he has been suspended with pay while the investigation moves forward.

The couple's daughter, Davilyn McCollum, told reporters the family is reeling.

"I feel like everybody is in such a state of confusion because my father loved my mother dearly." Davilyn McCollum said of her parents.

Davilyn said her parents' relationship was not marked by constant arguing and that the shooting has left loved ones searching for answers.

Tammy McCollum leaves behind a grieving congregation at The Well Worship Center, where she served as a minister and was known across the community for her warmth and devotion to Christ.

The Crusader's Opinion

Thirty years of public devotion, thirty years of calling him an "amazing man of God," and it ended with a 911 call and a body on the floor. Evil hides in pews too. The Devil is patient, and he loves nothing more than burrowing inside a professing Christian home and detonating it when the world is watching. We should grieve Pastor Tammy, honor her ministry, and stop pretending that titles and wedding anniversaries are a substitute for the fear of God. A man who will murder his wife in the small hours of the morning will answer for it, in this life and the next.
