Mike Johnson Sounds the Alarm: Sharia Law Is a 'Serious Problem' That Threatens the Constitution

Speaker Mike Johnson Declares Sharia Law a "Serious Problem" and Warns It Conflicts With the Constitution

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R La.) told reporters at the Republican Members Issues Conference at Trump National Doral Miami on March 9, 2026, that "the demand to impose Sharia law in America is a serious problem."

Johnson warned that Sharia law is fundamentally incompatible with the United States Constitution. He stated plainly:

"When you seek to come to a country and not assimilate, but to impose Sharia law Sharia law is in conflict with the U.S. Constitution. That is the conflict that people are talking about."

The Speaker was responding to questions about controversial remarks made by Rep. Andy Ogles (R Tenn.), who posted on X: "Muslims don't belong in American society. Pluralism is a lie." Johnson acknowledged the post, saying it was "different language than I would use," but added that he appreciated the underlying concern about Sharia encroachment.

Johnson was careful to draw a distinction between individual Muslims and those seeking to impose a foreign legal system on American soil:

"It is not about people as Muslims. It's about those who seek to impose a different belief system that is in direct conflict with the Constitution."

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D Md.) pushed back, citing the Constitution's Free Exercise Clause and Equal Protection guarantees. He called Ogles' rhetoric "racism and religious bigotry."

Johnson's remarks come amid a growing movement in Congress to confront Sharia influence. In January 2026, Reps. Chip Roy (R Texas) and Keith Self (R Texas) launched the Sharia Free America Caucus, which has since grown to over 30 members from 18 states. The Caucus has introduced two key pieces of legislation: the No Sharia Act (H.R. 5512) and the Preserving a Sharia Free America Act (H.R. 5722).

Ogles later doubled down on his post, writing: "My comments wouldn't even be a news story if I had said this about Christians."

Why Speaker Johnson's Warning About Sharia Law Matters for America's Constitutional Future

The Sharia Free America Caucus has drawn both support and fierce opposition. Senator Tommy Tuberville has backed the effort from the Senate side, while organizations like CAIR have designated the caucus as what they call an "anti Muslim hate group."

Constitutional scholars broadly agree that Sharia law cannot be implemented at a governmental level in the United States due to the Establishment Clause and existing constitutional protections. However, proponents of the caucus point to concerns about Sharia arbitration courts and self governing enclaves as legitimate threats to American legal uniformity.

The Crusader's Opinion

Rep. Ogles said something that everyone is thinking but too afraid to say. And you know what? He was right about one thing: if a Christian posted "Atheists don't belong in Saudi society," nobody would blink. But one Republican says the obvious about a legal system that endorses stoning women, executing apostates, and subjugating entire populations, and suddenly he's the villain.

Speaker Johnson is right. Sharia is not a religion. It is a totalitarian legal code that stands in direct opposition to every freedom the Constitution guarantees. The West did not build civilization on tolerance of intolerance. If your "belief system" demands the death penalty for leaving your faith, then yes, it conflicts with our Constitution. That is not bigotry. That is common sense.

Thank God there are still men in Congress willing to say it out loud.
