Vice President JD Vance Reveals New Book on His Conversion to Catholicism and Return to Christian Faith

Vice President JD Vance has announced a new memoir titled Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, chronicling his personal journey from abandoning Christianity to embracing the Catholic Church.

The 304 page book, set to release on June 16, 2026, will be published by HarperCollins, the same publisher behind Vance's 2016 bestseller Hillbilly Elegy.

Vance, the first convert to Catholicism to serve as Vice President of the United States, made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) this week.

I've been writing this book for a long time, and I'm honored to finally share the full story.

The Vice President stated that his return to faith was only possible because he had first lost it. Raised in a loosely evangelical household, Vance became an atheist during college and his years working in the financial industry after graduating from Yale University.

He converted to Roman Catholicism in 2019, crediting his new faith with giving him a sense of purpose that neither education nor career success could provide.

I'm a Christian, and I became a Christian because I believe Jesus Christ's teachings are true.

Jonathan Burnham, President and Publisher of the Harper Group, described the book as one that "will speak to so many searching for faith, connection and meaning."

Vance reportedly wrote the 304 page memoir himself and had been working on it intermittently since 2019. He previously set aside a book project about his Christian faith for HarperCollins in 2022, and Communion is partly a continuation of that earlier work.

The book's release comes amid growing speculation about Vance's 2028 presidential ambitions. Current polling shows him leading potential Republican primary candidates at 44.9 percent.

At the 2025 National Catholic Prayer Breakfast, Vance spoke about his experience as a Catholic, sharing that he learned grace is a process that God works in people over time.

The Crusader's Opinion

In an age where politicians run from faith like it's political poison, JD Vance is writing a book about it. That alone should tell you something. Whether you are Catholic, Protestant, or Orthodox, a sitting Vice President publicly declaring that Jesus Christ's teachings are true is something every Christian should take note of. We need leaders who aren't afraid to say the name of Christ out loud. The secular world will mock this book. Let them. The fact that a man who climbed from Appalachian poverty to the second highest office in the land credits God for the transformation is a testimony that speaks louder than any poll number ever could.
