Iran Internet Blackout Conceals Persecution of Christians During 2026 Protest Crackdown

Since January 8, 2026, the Islamic regime in Iran has imposed a nationwide internet blackout to conceal the massacre of protesters, including Christians. Death toll estimates range from 2,000 to over 20,000 killed, making this one of the largest massacres in modern Iranian history.

Iranian Christians, numbering close to 1 million, have broken with decades of political silence to openly support the protests, a historic shift. Mansour Khajehpour, a Presbyterian church leader, said: "The message that I hear from the Christians in Iran is a message of solidarity, a message of the theology of resistance."

With communication severed, Christian communities inside Iran have been unable to reach the outside world. David Yeghnazar of Elam Ministries reported that Christians told him conditions are dire: "So much hope has been drained from people."

Iranian Christians Face Unprecedented Crackdown as Regime Silences All Communication

According to Article 18, at least 139 Christians were arrested, 80 detained, and 77 formally charged for their beliefs in 2024. That same year, 96 Christians were sentenced to a combined 263 years in prison, a sixfold increase from 2023. The Archbishop of York has urged the international community to take action on Iran's blackout and the persecution it conceals.

The Crusader's Opinion

Iran cut the internet because the truth is their greatest enemy. Behind that digital curtain, Christians are being arrested, imprisoned, and killed. 263 years of prison sentences in a single year. A sixfold increase. And now total darkness, with no one able to report what is happening. This regime fears the Gospel more than any weapon. Every Christian who can speak must be the voice for those who have been silenced. Break through the blackout. Tell their story.

Take Action
